Ramon Hervey II early life

Hervey II was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 18, 1950, to Winifred Hervey and her husband Ramon T Hervey. His parents were an interracial couple, and he grew up with two sisters named Christie and Winifred, according to The History Makers.

He went to high school in California and graduated in 1968. Showing some interest in the music industry but never wanting to pursue it as a career, he earned a BA from Whittier College and searched for a job in a different field.

That job ended up being a flight attendant for the now-defunct Pan American Airlines, but eventually he found his way back to music as a publicist for music magazines.

Ramon Hervey II Career

Hervey II worked as a publicist for Starlite Music Artists, Hamlett Marsh Publishers, and then Motown Records until 1977.

While he was at Motown, he worked on campaigns for superstars like Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, and Smokey Robinson. After he left Motown he went to work for Rogers & Cowan as a writer, and was later promoted to director of music and vice president of music and talent.

After that, he joined the Gibson Group until the late ’80s and represented clients like Rick James, Bette Midler, and his now ex-wife Vanessa Williams. He’s widely credited with the revitalization of Little Richard and others like Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Kenny Lattimore.

He’s also had a hand in a number of film and documentary projects, including Free Angela and Hot Flash Havoc.
