A Dunkin’ customer says she lost a coupon book offering free coffee for a year after leaving it on top of her car. The woman, who posts on TikTok under the handle _jvon, recounted the mishap in a video.
According to the creator, her local Dunkin’ had closed for a month to undergo a rebrand before reopening with a free-coffee giveaway. She joined the line with her five-year-old daughter. “I waited two hours for this free coffee,” she said.
At the counter, she ordered drinks while her daughter picked out merchandise. She says the employee handed her the coupon book alongside her “piping hot” coffee. As she headed to her car, her daughter asked her to attach a Dunkin’ keychain to her book bag.
She realizes the coupon book is missing
She says she got her daughter into the car and drove to after-school care. Only then did she check her seat for the coupons. They were not there. “I left it on top of my car,” she says. She drove back along her route but says the book was gone. She suspects someone picked it up and “is enjoying my misfortune right now,” she says. The video does not show what actually happened to the coupons.
She lists what she came away with. That includes Dunkin’ tattoos, donuts, the coffee she bought and a Gatorade she grabbed because she was thirsty after two hours outside. Two keychains also made it home, one for her daughter and one for her daughter’s friend. “I waited and now I have nothing to show for it,” she says.
She says waiting in line is out of character for her, despite visiting Dunkin’ every day, including weekends. The woman says she is too upset to think straight, let alone go to work. “I feel sick,” she says.
Other Dunkin’ customers have shared their own frustrations on TikTok, including one woman who said she was charged 50 cents for a receipt after buying two lattes. She questioned whether the charge was correct.
Dunkin’ has offered similar giveaways at other store openings. According to the company’s official newsroom, the first 100 guests at its 100th California location in Santa Ana received free coffee for a year. The creator says her coupon book also offered a year’s worth of free coffee, though she doesn’t specify how many drinks were included or whether any restrictions applied.
The chain has also featured in other unusual customer stories, including one woman who was confused after an employee handed her a toilet plunger with her drink. She said staff told her to “just take it” when she asked what it was.
Commenters offered advice, with one writing, “Call Dunkin’ customer service.” Another warned, “Don’t put stuff on top of cars. Something always stays behind.” A third suggested looking for newly opened locations, saying they “always give out free coffee for a year.” The creator replied, “I didn’t know that. Thank you.” She has not said whether she contacted Dunkin’ about replacing the coupon book.
