An 18-year-old woman says she dumped a bowl of raw chicken and its juices onto her 22-year-old brother’s bedroom floor after he allegedly left the kitchen in a gross state. She shared the story in a Reddit post by u/Ready-Problem-5751 in r/AmItheAsshole, describing an ongoing fight with her brother over hygiene and basic household responsibilities.
The woman, who is reportedly on a gap year before heading to university, says her brother is a university student who still lives at home. She describes his hygiene as poor, claiming he rarely showers and often smells bad. According to her, the bigger problem appears to be his cooking habits.
When he runs out of money for takeout, he apparently cooks fried chicken. As he allegedly never cleans the kitchen afterward, bits of raw chicken and dirty bowls reportedly sit out for days until their mother eventually cleans them up.
She says the last straw came right after they deep-cleaned the whole house
Things reportedly came to a head this past weekend when the brother and their father returned from a camping trip. The woman and her mother apparently spent days deep-cleaning the house, but the brother allegedly started frying chicken in the kitchen almost immediately.
Despite a promise to clean up, he reportedly left the space covered in raw chicken juice and dirty utensils by the time the women returned that night. Their mother told him to clean, but the mess was apparently still there the next morning.
Kitchen disputes have pushed others to petty revenge too, including a woman who said her ex never helped in the kitchen, so she hid fermenting kombucha bottles around his home before moving out.
The sister says she tried to address the issue with him, but their parents intervened. They reportedly told her that pressuring him only makes him more stubborn and that she should let them handle it. However, she claims he does not listen to their parents either.
Frustrated, as she still could not use the kitchen, the sister says she grabbed a bowl containing raw chicken and juice and carried it upstairs. She then dumped it on his bedroom floor. She claims the spill was minimal and did not damage the flooring.
The brother was reportedly enraged and began screaming at her, which apparently prompted her to leave the house and stay at her grandparents’ place for the night. Her parents are now reportedly demanding an apology. She feels she has reached her limit, as she is tired of cleaning up after a grown man while her parents coddle him.
The account comes only from her post, and her brother’s and parents’ side could not be verified. Sibling disputes have split other families online as well, including a Redditor who said they played matchmaker for their sister but were banished to the back of the room at her wedding.
Many Reddit commenters appeared to side with her and placed much of the blame on the parents. “Your parents are the problem for raising him to be the way he is. The fact that they haven’t kicked him out yet is astounding,” one commenter wrote. “Honestly, NTA your brother needs to clean up after himself,” another added.
Raw chicken can carry bacteria such as salmonella, which is part of why a mess left out overnight can be more than an eyesore. However, some commenters questioned her decision to bring the mess into his room. “I get why you were fed up, even if throwing it in his room wasn’t the best move,” one person wrote.
