Luxury homes are built on the site of an old Chicago church. Then 4 grown men reportedly run out of one of the buildings shouting one word: ‘Demonio’

She says nobody will buy or move into the homes

A TikTok video posted by Tessa (@tessa420_) has drawn over a hundred thousand views as she described four luxury homes sitting in a row on her street in Chicago. She said a building company knocked down a long-abandoned church to put up the homes, which she claimed no one will buy or move into.

Tessa explained that her neighborhood is being gentrified and that most buildings there are large apartment complexes or older homes converted into multiple units. She noted that she lives in one of the converted homes. On-screen text in the video added that the homes and apartments are all over 70 to 120 years old.

She said the church stood across the street for years and looked creepy and abandoned. Multiple businesses tried to remodel, revamp, or demolish it, she stated, but none finished a project because they could not keep workers on the site.

Events during the open house at one of the new homes

Tessa said construction workers left the job even during the day after experiencing strange things. She acknowledged that some people might not see that as proof of anything unusual. She then described the moment she heard the men shouting “Demonio” as they ran outside.

The church has since been demolished, and the homes have been built on the land, she said. One home has been move-in ready and has held open houses since June. Over the weekend, Tessa and her partner went to an open house because she wanted to see inside. It isn’t the first open house to spook visitors, as another user showed a door handle appearing to turn on its own.

They were the only people there besides the realtor, she stated. She told the realtor upfront that they were neighbors who were just curious and could not afford the house, so he did not need to give a full tour. He laughed and still offered to show them around, saying there was a lot of tech in the house.

In the video, Tessa held up a hand-drawn diagram of the master suite. She described a double-door entrance to the bedroom, plus separate his and hers closets that both lead into a master bathroom with two sinks and facing mirrors. She counted six doors in total.

She, her partner, and the realtor were all standing in the large hers closet, she said. As they got ready to enter the bathroom, they clearly heard the door from the master bedroom into his closet close. They thought another visitor was in the house.

The realtor called out that they were giving a tour, but no one answered, she recounted. He left to check his side while Tessa and her partner stayed in her closet. At that point, she said, the sink on his vanity turned on by itself. They walked into the bathroom and saw the sink running, she stated. The realtor opened the closed door and stood staring at the sink. Tessa told him it was a little creepy and a little spooky.

She described the realtor looking disappointed and frustrated. He looked at the sink and said, “You know, I’ve been trying to sell this house since June, and what can I say, there’s a bunch of unexplained quirks that just keep happening.”

Tessa asked if this happens often. He replied, “This and 30 of its cousins,” she said. He added that almost every open house since June has had something, and that only two tours had nothing he could not explain.

He knows the house well enough that he notices doors open at the start of a tour and close later with no one else present, she stated. Not every visitor catches the things that happen, he told her, because some of them are subtle. Unexplained quirks aren’t limited to new builds either, as one couple found out when they received a mysterious letter from a previous owner about their 130-year-old home.

Tessa concluded that the activity occurs in the daytime. She said it was 2 p.m. with cookies and fruit punch set out for the open house while sinks turned on and doors closed on their own. She added that it makes “no absolute f–king sense.”

She said she is kind of glad because she thinks building the homes was the wrong move. She called it karma and stated, “You are gonna get demon karma if you keep gentrification station in all the places.”

Several viewers left comments after watching the video. One focused on the facing mirrors and wrote, “they stupid for doing that with the mirrors…. thats 101 ghosts stuff you dont do….” Another simply said, “The mirrors are a NOPE.”

A different commenter joked, “In this economy?! I’m about to bunk with beazelbub.” One person wrote, “I’ll buy it for $3.” Another set the other claims aside and noted the layout, writing, “Spooky stuff aside… I don’t want to have to walk through my closet to go to my bathroom. That whole layout is weird.”
