A man says his wife silently passed him a stranger’s shoe at a bar, and he kept it for two years before leaving it at the door with a message inside

A shoe, a slur and a 'Be nicer' note.

A man recently shared a story about how he and his wife reportedly handled an aggressive stranger at a bar by walking away with one of her shoes, according to a Reddit post by u/Just-Secretary-4018 in r/pettyrevenge. The incident apparently happened some years ago, as the couple was trying to enjoy a quiet beer while dealing with personal stress involving their child.

They were looking for privacy to talk through their problems, but a woman at the bar allegedly refused to leave them alone. He claims she acted offensively and loudly, moving from table to table to avoid paying for the many drinks she ordered. He described her as a parasite who cycled through groups whenever the bill arrived.

When the couple politely asked for space, the woman reportedly became more invasive and rude. However, according to his account, the situation reached a boiling point when she called the man a slur. At that point, she had taken off her shoes, as she allegedly had a sprained ankle.

He says he hid her shoe, and the whole bar played dumb

According to the man, his wife handed him the shoe while he was not looking. He wrapped the shoe in his jacket and hid it in his bag. He recalls the woman spending the rest of her time at the bar screaming that her favorite shoes were missing.

The bar staff and patrons reportedly acted like they had no idea where the shoe went, telling her she had moved around a lot. The woman eventually left on foot, apparently walking home in only one shoe. He claims he kept the missing shoe for two years until he moved to a new house.

Before he left the area, he says he wrote “Be nicer” inside the shoe and left it at the bar entrance. He hoped that, as she was a regular, she might eventually see it. However, he reportedly admits he does not care whether she ever found it, and he says he has zero regrets.

The account comes only from his post, and the woman’s side of the night could not be verified. Other r/pettyrevenge posters have shared their own slow-burn payback, including a woman who said she hid fermenting kombucha bottles around her ex’s home before moving out.

The story sparked an online conversation, with users praising the couple for their silent coordination. “I love that you and your wife were on the same page without even saying anything,” one commenter wrote. Another joked that walking a mile in someone’s shoes would leave a person a mile away with their shoes.

Petty revenge stories have drawn big audiences before, including a TikToker’s petty revenge on a woman who insulted him online. The man claims that taking the shoe was a response to the way the woman treated people in the bar, and he says things likely would have played out differently without the alleged hate speech.
