A Las Vegas restaurant hostess says a customer objected to a $25 cake-cutting fee before a birthday dinner reportedly ended in an argument. In a TikTok video, Krista says the dispute escalated until the restaurant owner asked the party to leave.
Krista says the customer initially agreed to skip the cake after hearing about the fee. However, the woman later arrived with it and asked staff to serve it. Two guests arrived early and sat at the bar, where they were friendly, according to the hostess.
The rest of the party arrived around 7:20 p.m., and she counted eight people instead of six. The hostess needed a couple of minutes to join tables, but the customer complained, saying, “We were 20 minutes late and you don’t even have our table ready.”
The birthday cake dispute reportedly escalates
Then, Krista says, the woman handed over a cake box and asked staff to serve it later. The hostess told her the $25 fee would still apply. She also says the customer tried to take the children into a bar restricted to people aged 21 and older. When the server told the hostess the customer was unhappy, she tried to apologize for the mix-up but was told to “open up your ears.”
Restaurant workers have shared similar stories about difficult tables, including a pregnant server who described a rude table refusing to pay and speaking past her to a male colleague. She said the diner kept directing his questions to the new male employee even after she stepped in to help.
Krista says the customer told the owner that the party felt unwelcome and called the hostess a b—h. She initially walked away but says she heard the woman insult her again as the party gathered its belongings. This time, the hostess fired back, saying, “You’re a f—ing b—h,” loud enough for the dining room to hear.
According to the creator, the owner then told the party to leave, saying, “I don’t want your money.” The guests left their cake behind, and she says she left a voicemail giving them 24 hours to collect it. The customer’s husband later returned for the cake and apologized. He offered her a tip, but she refused it and apologized for her own outburst, saying, “I’m sorry for calling her a b—h. I shouldn’t have done that.”
Restaurants that allow outside cakes may charge a cutting fee to cover preparation and serving costs. St. Louis Magazine notes that the work can include cutting and plating the cake, clearing plates, and washing dishes. Krista addressed the issue in a reply to one commenter who asked, “Cake cutting fee??? Really??? That is a joke!!!!” She responded, “Imagine going to a restaurant but bringing your own food and then making a mess using our plates, forks, make zero sense. So we have a cake cutting fee!”
Birthday tables have tested other restaurant workers too, including a Tampa server who said one party asked for free items because of a birthday and then tipped her one cent. She said the table handed her $70 on a $69.99 bill and told her to keep the change.
Another commenter criticized how often customers miscount their party size, writing, “The amount of people that don’t count their kids is ridiculous.” Others praised the owner’s response, with one comment reading, “How VERY RARE for the owner of the restaurant to take your side.” That comment received more than 1,200 likes.
Krista says the customer later left a one-star Google review claiming the hostess had used a more offensive insult first. Krista disputes that account, and the customer’s side of the confrontation could not be independently verified. According to Krista, the restaurant contacted Google several times before the review was removed.
