A woman recently shared a story about leaving her partner, claiming she left behind a sticky, fermented kombucha mess as a parting gift, according to a Reddit post (now deleted) by u/MALEsquashBLOSSOM in r/pettyrevenge. After dealing with a partner who, she says, refused to help in the kitchen and expected to be waited on, she planned a quiet exit.
She reportedly spent her final days at the home he owned, keeping her plans secret, as he accused her of being unable to move out. She reportedly did not engage with his anger, choosing instead to go grey rock and keep her departure date a secret.
When it was time to leave, she says she coordinated with family and local police to move her belongings while he was at work. She supposedly left the home looking clean. However, she had apparently prepared a trap that would trigger weeks later, as she brewed her own kombucha and knew how to turn it into a disaster.
She apparently turned his whole house into a kombucha time bomb
According to the Redditor, adding sugar to bottles during the second fermentation process creates carbonation. The Redditor claims that if the bottles sit in a warm environment, like a home during the summer, the pressure can build up until the glass bursts. She added that she prepared more than 30 kombucha bottles and hid them where he was unlikely to clean or look.
She reportedly tucked the kombucha onto wire shelves in the pantry and above his memorabilia collection, with more on shelves over his clothing and laundry areas. The spots were apparently tied to the domestic duties he refused to perform, likely making the mess harder to handle. According to the Redditor, she figured high temperatures would speed up fermentation and trigger a chain of explosions.
She reportedly left the house without saying a word, and she says she has ignored the messages he sent after the bottles started to burst. Though she has since deleted the post, commenters appeared to love the plan, with one writing, “I hope he peed a little when the first one exploded.” Another added, “Wow. And I thought glitter on a ceiling fan was extreme.”
One person asked why he didn’t search the rest of the home after the first bottle went off. However, not every reaction focused on him, as another commenter seemed more upset about losing the kombucha itself, saying it was far too good for him.
She reportedly hasn’t responded to any of his emails so far, and with more than 30 kombucha bottles said to be stashed around the house, more could still burst as long as the weather stays warm.
