Woman spends $14 on two Dunkin’ lattes and asks for a receipt. The employee tells her it costs 50 cents: ‘This does not seem correct’

She first thought it was a misunderstanding.

A Dunkin customer said in a TikTok video that she spent $14 on two lattes and then asked for a printed receipt. She stated that the drive-thru employee told her a receipt costs 50 cents. In the clip, she addressed the chain directly.

The video was posted by @yourtiktocksister, and had 34,800 views. The caption read, “wait… 50 cents?? @Dunkin’ I need answers please.” The woman appeared seated in the driver’s seat at a drive-thru. She wore a beige baseball cap, large mirrored sunglasses, and a black t-shirt with a Mickey Mouse design. An on-screen overlay showed “@Dunkin'”

She opened by saying, “This message is for Dunkin’ Donuts. This does not seem correct.” An employee then handed items through the window and said, “Have a good day.” She replied, “Thank you,” before turning back to the camera and asking, “Can somebody please send help?”

TikTok poster describes a claimed 50-cent fee for a Dunkin’ receipt

The woman said she is not a frequent Dunkin’ shopper. She explained that her best friend had recently turned her on to Dunkin’ lattes and that she is now “obsessed.” She stated she was buying one latte for herself and one for somebody else. Customer interactions at Dunkin’ can sometimes take unexpected turns, as one Illinois woman’s polite greeting was allegedly met with an insult.

She said she asked for a receipt so she could scan it on the Fetch rewards app, not because she was disputing the charge. She noted that the employee never told her the total when she pulled up or when she handed over her card.

She stated that the worker handed her card back without a receipt. She said she then asked, “Can I please have the receipt?” According to her account, the employee replied, “I’m sorry, ma’am, but they are 50 cents apiece.”

She said she first thought the worker might have misunderstood. She stated she clarified, “No, no, I just want a receipt.” She then claimed the employee said, “Yeah, my boss says we have to charge 50 cents if the customer wants a receipt.”

The woman said she reacted with disbelief. She stated, “Sir, wait. Dunkin’ Donuts, is this correct? This cannot be correct. I’m confused. Is this proper protocol for here?” She added that if that were the case she would “hightail it back to Tim Hortons” and would not put up with it.

She said that if she is spending “$14 on 2 drinks,” she wants “25 points on Fetch for my receipt.” Dunkin’ customer interactions have included other bewildering moments, such as when an NYC woman was handed a toilet plunger with her drink.

Viewers offered a range of reactions in the comments. One commenter guessed there might be someone in the store scanning receipts into Fetch. They wrote, “My guess is there’s someone in the store that scans all the receipts into fetch.” Another commenter questioned whether a charge for a receipt would be allowed. They wrote, “I question the legality of charging for a recite.”

A third commenter urged the poster to reach out to corporate and argued customers are entitled to proof of purchase. They wrote, “contact corporate… legally your entitled to proof of purchase. they can change you a fee for using a card but not the receipt.”

Some viewers said the situation made them wonder about added charges. One wrote, “Makes me wonder if they are adding on tips.” Another commenter said they had never heard of such a policy and suggested the worker might have added a tip. They wrote, “Wow! He’s lying. Never heard of such a thing. He probably added a tip for himself. I’ve seen a few videos of them doing that.”
