Fans of Dexter can breathe a sigh of relief. After a brief scuffle in October that could have made this current season the last, Showtime has announced that the hit forensics investigator/serial killer show will go on for two more seasons. The agreement was reached today, according to Deadline.

After the announcement was made, Deadline reporter Nellie Andreeva spoke with Showtime entertainment president David Nevins about the future of Dexter. Nevins said that Hall was very cooperative about the issue. He also said that even though the show has been extended for a “3-year trajectory,” which includes this current season, season 8 may or may not be the last we see of Dexter.

“I’m not going to say with absolute certainty that this is the end, but that is the likely scenario, that the series is moving towards a definite end,” Nevins said.

The show has been a huge success for Showtime, and it makes for a good pairing with the new series Homeland, which has become a hit in its rookie year. Nevins said the network looks to keep the shows together as part of their Sunday night lineup since they have both proven to be successful together.
