Managed to grin and bear it through the entirety of the first Final Fantasy XIII? Well good news for you! When players boot up the new Final Fantasy XIII-2 and the game detects a save file from the previous game, players will earn some extra goodies for the new game.

The extras come in the form of extra monster decorations and better odds at gambling games. The game will also feature a New Game+ mode that allows gamers to play the story over again while keeping their inventory and stats. Enabling New Game+ also nets the player some extra monster decorations.

Square Enix has also released a new video showcasing some of the locales that players will explore in the new game. While some environments are different, a few of these places should seem familiar. There’s a catch: because of the time travel mechanic of the game, some places will be noticeably different.

Have a look:

You see that moment where the trailer looks at a map? And the map is more than one path? That takes care of half the complaints of the first game.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is releasing on PS3 and Xbox 360 on January 31, 2012.

What say you, gamers? Are you convinced yet?
