Workplace revenge stories rarely get a second act, but one employee says hers showed up in a stack of job applications. In a Reddit post by u/Present_Platypus_578 in r/ProRevenge, she says she was reviewing resumes for her team when she spotted the name of a former boss she calls Pamela, a VP she apparently worked under about five years earlier at a mid-size retailer.
The poster claims working for her former boss was miserable, as she apparently handled budgets, operations, reports, and events while Pamela allegedly arrived after 10:00 a.m. and took long lunches. She also alleges that Pamela overspent on events the company could not afford and had her edit monthly budgets to hide the losses.
The employee says the constant stress eventually put her in the hospital with a severe infection that turned into sepsis. While recovering, she reportedly checked her work email and found a thread in which Pamela complained about her health issues and asked a friend how to save her own job.
Her former boss allegedly planned to pin the bad holiday sales on her
The friend allegedly suggested blaming the employee for that year’s poor holiday sales. The pair also apparently discussed framing her for theft or misuse of company resources, since firing her on those grounds would not look like retaliation for her medical leave.
When she returned, the employee says Pamela tried to cut her off from accounting and take over the budget process. Pamela reportedly told her not to speak with the accountant, Lois, about any financial issues. However, the employee claims she already had a good relationship with Lois.
She says she handed accounting a thick folder containing the email threads, the unedited budgets, and notes in which Pamela allegedly ordered her to falsify numbers. According to the employee, Pamela was fired within the week, and the CEO later apologized for the situation.
The employee says the resume that recently crossed her desk appeared to be full of lies. The application reportedly claimed credit for work she had done and listed 87% sales growth during the same holiday season when the department was apparently struggling to stay afloat.
She describes herself as a people pleaser, but she says “it has never been so satisfying to click “Disqualified”. Some commenters urged her to bring Pamela in for an interview to see how she’d react. However, she decided against it because she didn’t want to turn a hiring process into a spectacle.
The employee says her current boss, Mike, trusts her judgment, and she apparently did not want to risk that. One commenter told her she was too nice and said HR would have arranged an interview with the poster, who was waiting across the table. Another commenter praised her for keeping the evidence she needed after her former boss allegedly tried to throw her under the bus.
