In a move that should surprise absolutely no one (this IS coming from EA afterall), it has been confirmed that the newly announced multiplayer for space epic Mass Effect 3 will be using an online pass, only available in new copies of the game.

The online pass will only be included in new copies of the game, which of course means that should you buy Mass Effect 3 used, you’ll have to drop the extra money to buy an online pass. Unless of course the person who owned the game before you was an anti-social gamer with no friends, then the online pass may still be in the box.

I know the online pass thing, nicknamed Project Ten Dollar by the gaming community, has caught a lot of flak, but let’s think about this for a second. Mass Effect 3 is really the kind of game that most people will probably pick it up brand new near launch. Anyone who does otherwise probably isn’t the kind of person that wants to put time into the multiplayer anyway. Afterall, the past two games relied entirely on single-player aspects, so this really isn’t THAT big of a deal.

Mass Effect 3 launches on March 6, 2012.

What say you, gamers? Does this affect your purchase plans at all?
