Newlywed allegedly captions their group cabin trip photos as ‘just the two of us.’ Then a friend’s comment on the post unravels their story

The alleged comment was promptly deleted.

Six friends reportedly spent months planning a group cabin trip, according to a Reddit post by u/Top_Age4364 in r/AITApod. However, one of the friends allegedly captioned her weekend photos as if she had been alone with her new husband. The poster says the newlywed deleted a comment that established there were four other guests.

The newlywed had reportedly married at a courthouse just weeks before the cabin trip, so she began referring to the getaway as her honeymoon. The group apparently supported this and even brought a small cake to celebrate, according to the poster.

After the group returned home, the newlywed allegedly posted several pictures from the cabin trip with the caption, “Our first little getaway as husband and wife, just the two of us.” One friend, who was a part of the trip, reportedly replied, “and the four of us sleeping upstairs.” The newlywed’s reaction was apparently immediate and negative.

She apparently told her family the cabin was just for two

She reportedly deleted the comment quickly and sent a private message to the friend who posted it. According to the poster, the newlywed said the comment embarrassed her in front of her family, as some relatives allegedly believed the couple had booked a private, romantic cabin for themselves.

The newlywed apparently wanted to maintain that image and did not want to explain that it was actually a group cabin trip with friends. However, the friend who left the comment said it was meant as a joke and that there was no way to know the trip was supposed to be a secret.

The newlywed reportedly told the friend that they could have just let her have something nice instead of making the situation about themselves. That response may strike some as extreme, as the friend had no apparent way of knowing what the couple’s relatives had allegedly been told.

Commenters on the cabin trip post largely appear to side with the friend who left the comment. One person wrote, “NTA your friend is pretending to have more than she does.” Another said, “NTA. She embarrassed herself.”

A third commenter suggested the blame likely sits with the newlywed, writing, “NTA sure it would be a d*** move if you did know but you had no idea what she told other people, that’s her fault for lying about something so stupid.”

Disputes between friends over weddings have surfaced on Reddit before, including one woman who says she was uninvited from her friend’s wedding a week before the ceremony. Another poster reportedly found that a fiancé had quietly lent money from wedding savings to his brother.
