An interesting twist on the ever popular post-apocalyptic genre, Horizon: Zero Dawn is set in a future ruled by mechanize creatures. Remaining humans have devolved into a pre-historic like society and use makeshift weaponry to battle the deadly robots.

Player’s take control of Aloy, a human armed only with primitive weaponry like bows, traps and snares enhanced with high tech salvage. They’ll use these tools to guide her across a massive open world populated by roaming machines. Among the creative enemies shown so far look, all have bizarrely animalistic characteristics, making the environment look like an animatronic zoo. Aloy can use the tools she possesses to hack into some of the creatures, allowing her to tame and mount them.

Using a bow to battle metal enemies seems counterintuitive, but in Aloy’s hands, it proves a more than capable weapon. Combat looks to reward creativity, quick thinking and fast reflexes. During a battle with one of the robotic monstrosities, Aloy dodges gigantic boulders thrown her way, shoots exploding arrows from horseback, and uses specialized arrows to tether her enemy in place. That’s a pretty impressive amount of versatility for a neo-cave woman.

Guerilla Games’ RPG is an exciting new IP, and we can’t wait to explore its complex world and toy with Aloy’s many combat options come February 2017.
