In case you haven’t loaded up Steam or looked at the Xbox Dashboard in a few days, Sniper Elite V2 started hitting store shelves on May 1st. It’s been exciting watching Rebellion retool what was widely considered the best sniping simulator ever to open it up to a new generation of gamers.

Ian Howe, president of 505 Games North America was quoted in a press release:

“We are very excited to have worked with Rebellion to bring gamers the most immersive sniping experience to date with Sniper Elite V2,” he stated. “We can ensure Sniper Elite fans that Sniper Elite V2 offers everything they have come to expect and more with a deep single-player experience and an addictive online co-op mode.”

Jason Kingsley, CEO of Rebellion went on to say:

“We’re delighted to bring Sniper Elite V2 to the current generation of consoles,” said Jason Kingsley, CEO of Rebellion. “This is no run-and-gun shooter, it’s an authentic sniping experience rewarding stealth, forcing the player to use their brain as well as their thumbs. We’re extremely proud of how this game looks and plays, gamers are in for an absolute treat.”’

This has been a long time coming for fans of the original series, and the idea of playing through the campaign with a buddy has me incredibly excited. Who feels like shooting some Nazis with me this month?

You can pick up Sniper Elite V2 on Steam, Xbox 360, or PS3. It retails for $49.99.
