Woman claims NY’s iconic hotel won’t let her in the bathroom unless she dined at restaurant. Then she enters the bathroom: ‘I will not be going back’

A visit to New York City’s iconic Plaza Hotel for dessert and drinks ended before it began, according to TikTok creator Amira. She says a dispute over restroom access and then the condition of the facilities prompted her group to leave without ordering.

In a viral TikTok, Amira (@amiramarie.xo), who typically posts beauty, fashion, and travel content, shared what she described as an unexpected experience at the historic Manhattan hotel. Her account has built an audience around lifestyle and travel-related videos.

According to Amira, she and her family stopped at the Plaza Hotel after a shopping trip for dessert and drinks. She said they entered the hotel, admired the lobby, and approached the restaurant, but no hostess was available.

Then she says they tried to use the restroom

The group decided to use the restroom while waiting, she said, but a hotel employee stopped them. “He said, ‘You can’t use the bathroom. It’s not available to the public. You can only use the bathroom if you’re staying at the hotel or if you’re dining in our hotel,'” Amira recalled in the video.

She said her group explained they intended to dine at the restaurant and wanted to use the restroom before sitting down. According to Amira, the employee insisted they first check in with the hostess, even though no hostess was present.

Amira said the employee eventually located a hostess, who asked whether they had a reservation before seating them. After reaching their table, the group returned to the restroom. Amira then showed photos and video of what she said she found inside.

“You would think that if you’re gonna make such a big deal about my family using your restroom and referring to us as the public, that that bathroom would be clean and pristine, right?” she said. Amira’s video showed apparent missing wall tiles, stained tile surfaces, dark grout lines, a dehumidifier inside the restroom, and missing soap and toilet paper.

Then, she added, “How can I forget to mention there’s missing toilet paper and there’s no soap? In both the men’s and the women’s restrooms.”

She says they reported the bathroom’s condition

According to Amira, she and her group reported their concerns to hotel management and showed staff photographs of the restroom. She said management appeared surprised by the images and responded that housekeeping would be notified.

Amira said she disagreed with that assessment. “We told them, that’s not a housekeeping issue. Your tile falling off of your bathroom is not a housekeeping issue. That’s a maintenance issue,” she said.

The group ultimately decided not to eat at the restaurant. “I was really excited to eat at the Plaza Hotel before I saw the state of that disgusting bathroom,” Amira said. “I will not be going back.”

The Plaza Hotel, located at the southeast corner of Central Park, opened in 1907 and remains one of New York City’s best-known luxury hotels, with restaurants, guest rooms and event spaces that attract visitors from around the world. The hotel has not publicly responded to Amira’s claims as of publication.
