Woman says her date left within 30 seconds of meeting her. Then she is told why it was not the man’s fault: ‘That’s not a date’

Consider it a bad first date for both parties.

Two is company, three is a crowd—and in this case, there were even more. A woman’s first date reportedly ended within 30 seconds after her date arrived and found her sitting with three other people. The TikTok account @206315e5 posted a video featuring the woman’s account of the encounter, along with commentary from a male TikTok user.

According to the woman, the man told her he was going to the bathroom shortly after arriving—but he never returned. She explained that when he arrived, she was already sitting with her friend Francesca, Francesca’s boyfriend, and another man named Nick.

“He just walked out on me within 30 seconds of seeing my face,” she said, noting that her date hadn’t expected to find her with a group. “Not the best look, situation-wise, but he kind of snuck up on me,” she added. After he told her he was going to the bathroom, he simply left. The video then briefly shows another woman, possibly her friend, before cutting to the male commentator.

The guy didn’t sign up for the group date

A male commentator in the video questioned why the woman was surprised by the man’s decision to leave. He pointed out that the man had agreed to a one-on-one date but arrived with what appears to be three strangers. “That man shows up to the date. There’s you, your female friend, and two male friends,” the commentator said, adding that it appeared to be a double date. “Not only is it a group of people he doesn’t know, but it looks like y’all are already on a double date,” he added.

The commentator said the woman should have informed the man if she intended to meet him with a group of friends. “Next time you go on a date with a guy, maybe don’t show up with a group of people that this man does not know,” he said.

Most comments sided with the man, though viewers had different theories about him allegedly leaving after 30 seconds. “He didn’t sign up for team dating,” one person wrote. Another asked, “That’s not a date, why are they there?”

Some suspected that the group might have expected him to cover everyone’s expenses. “That man wasn’t trying to pay for a whole group, or be a third wheel,” one commenter suggested. Another claimed, “She wanted free drinks for her and friends.” However, the woman never mentions asking him to pay for anyone. Those accusations came from viewers, not from either the woman, who was the subject of the video, or the male commentator.

But not everyone brings friends on a date just for personal gain. Relationship coach Jessica Opare-Saforo explains that some people do so out of genuine safety concerns, lingering trauma from past experiences, shyness, or even a lack of romantic interest. However, in this case, the woman did not clarify why she brought her friends along on her first date.
