‘Gross and tactless’: Donald Trump commits crime against interior design with hideous new White House addition

His worst addition to the White House yet.

In the grand scale of things, Donald Trump‘s horrific taste in interior design is fairly low on his list of negative traits. Sure, it’s objectively awful, but when it’s competing with things like his petty cruelty, lust for power, and extreme vanity – and the many horrible consequences those personality traits have for our world – who cares?

Even so, those who still hold the office of president and the symbolic power of the White House and Oval Office in high regard have been left aghast by what Trump has done to it. Past presidents have kept things low-key, with the relatively plain interior decor of the White House reinforcing that the president is a servant of the people and that the United States doesn’t need to rely on gaudy baubles to project power.

Trump didn’t get that memo and, like all his dwellings, the Oval Office is now festooned with gold leaf and crammed full of the kind of chintzy knick-knacks nobody wants when Grandmother dies. But now he’s taken it to a horrible new level by putting this monstrosity on the wall:

It’s noted that this was where Hillary Clinton’s portrait used to hang, with her visage presumably confined to a basement to collect dust for the next four years. Users also note that this extremely ugly painting has been hung on the wall reserved for first ladies. Make of that what you will.

Embarrassing

Even if you like Trump and support what he’s doing, there’s no denying this specific painting is mind-blowingly horrible. I’d say it looks like something sprayed onto the side of a van, but that’d be doing a discredit to the nation’s best-in-world van airbrush artists. If I had to pin down this specific aesthetic, I think it’s more like something painted on the side of a carnival attraction, right next to off-model takes on Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger.

The general reaction is what you’d expect: “embarrassing as f**k”, “looks like a s****y poster you’d buy at Spencers”, and “so gross and classless to put this s**t up. It’s like a 45 year old obese man with a punisher bumper sticker on a RAM 1500 was in charge of decorating the White House”.

At this point, it’s worth remembering that Trump will be in the White House until 2028. By then, everything could have been permanently Trumpified, leaving the seat of American power reeking of this administration for years to come.
