Bride allegedly served McDonald’s at her reception. Her total wedding budget was $9,000: ‘no one had an excuse’

A video about a bride who reportedly planned her entire wedding on a $9,000 budget has drawn attention online, after a creator broke down the money-saving choices she made for her big day.

The video was posted by a TikTok creator known as Mimi (@wedding_girlie). It has been viewed more than 626,600 times and has received over 67,700 likes.

In the video, Mimi walks through several parts of the bride’s wedding, including the food, decorations, activities for kids, and how photos were collected from guests.

Cake pops, flip-flops, and McDonald’s replaced traditional wedding staples

According to the video, the bride skipped a traditional wedding cake and instead served cake pops arranged in a tiered display. The cake pops were blue, white, and teal, with some covered in sprinkles. A small cake was placed at the top of the display.

The bride also set up what the video describes as a “dancing shoe station,” with light blue flip-flops sorted by size and labeled “Small,” “Medium,” and “Large.” The flip-flops had the initials “A D” printed on them. Describing the setup, the narrator said, “She had this dancing shoe station, that way no one had an excuse to not be on the dance floor.”

For food, the bride reportedly served McDonald’s burgers instead of a traditional catered meal. The video shows her holding a tray stacked with individually wrapped burgers. The narrator commented, “Instead of overpriced wedding food, she had McDonald’s burgers. I’m sure everyone loved this.”

To keep children entertained during the event, the bride set up personalized activity boxes labeled “WEDDING FUN!” with names written on them. Each box contained small toys and activities. Unconventional wedding planning choices can spark debate, as seen when a bride demanded guests cook for themselves, leading to a food poisoning scare. 

The video also states that the bride only booked her photographer for part of the wedding day. After the ceremony ended, guests were asked to scan QR codes displayed on a sign that read, “SNAP & SHARE. Share your photos with us!” 

Per the narrator, photos and videos taken by guests were then uploaded to a shared online album that all attendees could access. The debate over wedding expectations isn’t new, such as when a couple charged guests $300 a night for a destination wedding. 

The narrator identified the website used to set up the QR code system as GuestGala.com, describing it as a platform people can use to collect photos and videos from event guests. The video ends with the narrator encouraging viewers to save the post for their own wedding planning.

The video’s comment section included a range of reactions, with some viewers questioning how a $9,000 wedding could be considered budget-friendly. One commenter wrote, “9k on a budget??? how much are weddings normally??” Another commenter said they spent far less on their own wedding, writing, “everyone losing their minds I did my whole wedding for approx $1000.”

Some viewers questioned the overall value of large wedding celebrations. One comment read, “See? Weddings are pointless to me. I’m ok with having a 5 minute ceremony in McDonald’s parking lot. Why are weddings so important? Never understood this.” Others reacted specifically to the food choice, with one person writing, “if I show up to a wedding and they serve me McDonald’s and cake pops I’m leaving.”

However, other commenters defended the bride’s choices. One wrote, “I don’t get why there are people complaining. Cake pops are cake, and they’re more convenient and clean. The album with QR codes is AMAZING. So many fun candids on that album and everyone can see them. As for the food, McDonald’s f–ks, so there’s you go lol.”
