Bust-up in Connecticut Target sees 4yo girl injured and Pokémon scalper arrested

Pokémon card enthusiasts don't take kindly to scalpers.

A viral video that shows an altercation between Target customers in Lisbon, Connecticut, has reportedly resulted in an arrest after a four-year-old girl was hurt during the confrontation. The fight between the two customers allegedly started over Pokémon cards, with at least one of the individuals involved being a scalper.

Footage of the incident was shared on X by the Pokémon account PokéStreetz. According to PokéStreetz, the person who submitted the clip claimed that she and her boyfriend had been standing in line at their local Target around noon on August 28. They were near the front of the queue when two shoppers in front of them allegedly began filling their baskets with the remaining Pokémon cards.

Shoppers were told there was a two-item-per-SKU limit, but the two individuals were seen taking their baskets full of Pokémon cards to a shopping cart hidden in the men’s clothing section at Target, reports Dexerto.

A fight breaks out in Target

The viral footage shows the confrontation over Pokémon cards and the moments after the two shoppers had allegedly filled their baskets. The two men, one in a black hoodie and another in a white shirt, are seen walking with the shopping cart full of cards as the person recording confronts them. One of the men is heard telling the boyfriend, “Back the f–k up, get out of our face.”

A female voice is also heard off camera telling the pair, “They’re not going to let you check out like that,” to which one of the men responds, “You want to bet?” The person recording follows the two men to the self-checkout area and can be heard calling them scalpers. The individual who submitted the video claimed that the man in the white shirt punched her boyfriend in the face shortly afterward.

Scalpers aren’t particularly liked

The Cambridge Dictionary defines a scalper as “someone who buys things, such as theatre tickets, at the usual prices and then sells them, when they are difficult to get, at much higher prices.” It’s common to see scalpers buying any products that have high demand, often purchasing in bulk, only to resell at a much higher price to people who were unable to purchase the item when it was initially on sale.

The two men appear to admit that is their intention as they tell the man recording, “It’s the freest ride of our lives, bro.”

After reaching the checkout, the man in the white shirt appears to swing at the person recording, resulting in him allegedly falling back and into a four-year-old girl who reportedly injured her elbow. PokéStreetz claimed that the man got back up and immediately checked on the young girl while the attacker fled the store, leaving behind his wallet. The father of the girl subsequently called the police after Target staff reportedly declined to do so.

According to the submitter, the attacker later returned for his wallet, and both men were arrested by police. The PokéStreetz account questioned why Target staff did not intervene and enforce the two-limit rule earlier.
