‘He was super creepy’: Woman was told her concerns about the OB-GYN were ‘misandrist’. Then the clinic closed and an investigation began

A woman said in a TikTok video that she had been criticized months earlier after describing a male obstetrician-gynecologist as creepy and saying she felt something was wrong. Stephanie Rose, who posts as @xoxostephrose, said she later felt validated after learning the clinic had closed and that an investigation had begun.

Rose said a couple of months ago she came on the app and said she had been sent to an OB and it was a man. She said she asked why a man would be a gynecologist. “He was super creepy,” she said in the video, adding that she felt there was something wrong with him.

She said people on the app “slaughtered” her and told her she was being discriminatory and that a man should be allowed to be an OB. She said she was right every time and that the entire clinic closed because none of the staff would work for him. She said he fled the country and is being investigated.

Rose said she was “so mad and so validated.” She said that every time she gets that feeling, “they prove me f–king right.” She addressed people who call her a man-hater and said she is not. She said just enough of them “do this s–t” that they keep proving her right.

In a MedPage Today Op-Med, Chloe Nazra Lee, MD, MPH, wrote that acknowledging gender-based violence in medicine is not “man-hating.” Lee said a Doximity piece on barriers men face in obstetrics and gynecology raised valid issues, including a feeling of not belonging. She said she did not appreciate comments that called a female patient’s preference for a female physician reverse discrimination or compared it to racism.

Lee wrote that she has never known a physician to leverage minority status to abuse a patient, and that the same cannot be said for male physicians using that status to take advantage of patients. She cited former obstetrician-gynecologist Robert Hadden, MD, who she said sexually abused countless female patients over more than 20 years at Columbia University Irving Medical Center under the guise of necessary exams.

According to NBC News, Hadden, 64, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison after a judge described the crimes as shocking and unprecedented. U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman said the government reported that at least 245 women among thousands Hadden treated have claimed they were abused. The abuse described in court covered gynecology treatments from the late 1980s until 2012 at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

Hadden was reportedly convicted of four counts of enticing victims to cross state lines so he could sexually abuse them. Berman said testimony was “shocking in the extreme.” Hadden said in court, “I’m very sorry for all the pain that I have caused.”

Prosecutors said the institutions agreed to pay more than $236 million to settle civil claims by more than 200 former patients. Columbia settled with his victims for $236 million. The case reflects a broader pattern of medical dismissal, as a separate story details how doctors allegedly told a woman her problem was her weight until her male partner spoke up.

Viewers responding to Rose’s TikTok described their own experiences with male gynecologists and said they trust that instinct. One commenter said a male gynecologist they saw as a teenager did not allow their mom into the exam room and called her “controlling,” and that they do not remember that appointment or exam. These concerns about male gynecologists are not isolated, such as when a pregnant woman felt uncomfortable with her male gynecologist.

Another wrote, “My first OB, whom I demanded I be switched from because I hated and felt weird around him, was convicted of abusing his patients.” One commenter said they refuse to see a male gyno and will wait if a woman is not available.

Others wrote, “Never let yourself be gaslit. That feeling you get is always right,” and “Trust your gut girl, ALWAYS trust your gut!” Another said, “We all have that feeling and get told we are mean or nuts.” One commenter wrote, “always, always always trust your insticts when it concerns a man. Because when you ignore that feeling your sorry afterwards.”
