‘I can laugh now’: Woman went to Walmart for disinfecting wipes. Little did she know one hidden laundry detergent would lead to a $10,000 jackpot

One Walmart spill changed the whole trip

A quick errand at Walmart turned into a $10,000 settlement for one shopper, according to her account. She only wanted a few cleaning supplies. Instead, she left with a story she now describes simply: “I can laugh now but I was SO EMBARRASSED.”

TikTok creator bryia shared her account of the incident on her page. According to her, it happened during her senior year of high school. She was visiting Houston from Louisiana for the weekend at the time.

Her best friend had just bought a car, she said, so the group headed to Walmart for disinfectant wipes and other supplies. At the time, she was “more so focused on chopping it up and catching up with my people.” She kept turning back to her friends while walking. Even so, she said she was still watching the aisle signs. One marked detergent and bleach caught her attention before she continued down the aisle.

Her friends spotted the spill before she did

Moments later, her friends started shouting her name and telling her to look down. “I look, y’all, and it’s genuinely a puddle of laundry detergent,” she said. She tried to take a careful step away from the spill, but she said the fall happened anyway.

“It wasn’t a regular fall, y’all, it was the most dramatic fall, animated fall,” she said, comparing it to a cartoon character floating up before crashing down. “I did not hit the ground soft. I hit that ground hard,” she added. Floor hazards inside Walmart stores have led to other odd run-ins with shoppers, like the time one woman said reckless teenagers created a hazard near a pharmacy aisle.

She said she may have wet herself slightly during the fall. Afterward, she called her mother, who stepped in to handle things. “My mama can file a lawsuit or whatever, and I could have got more than 10,000,” she said. It is not clear from her account whether a lawsuit was formally filed, and Walmart has not publicly addressed the incident. She isn’t the only Walmart shopper whose trip led to a legal dispute, as one North Carolina woman sued Walmart after a self-checkout incident

She said the $10,000 arrived shortly before she left for college. “People fall for free every day,” she said, explaining why she was grateful for the money even though she believes she could have gotten more.

Her comments section picked up on the same details. One person asked, “How long did it take for them to pay u or offer it.” Another claimed, “10,000 is the automatic payout cause they don’t want to go to court iykyk.” A third pointed to her expression on camera, writing, “That little smirk after ‘yall know i hit that floor hard.'”

The settlement amount and timeline come only from her retelling. No court records or Walmart statements have surfaced to confirm the details so far.
