’I know my truth’: She gave Dunkin’ $20 for her daughter’s order. Then the employee looked her in the eye and denied everything

The police got involved

A woman filming inside a Dunkin’ Donuts in Kingston, New York, said she handed an employee a $20 bill for a second order and was then told that no money had been given. The video was shared on TikTok by @fejahsarah under the name Planet. An on-screen caption in the video stated, “Robbed by a Dunkin Donuts employee on the clock.”

In the recording, the woman first said she came in with $50, then corrected herself to $72. She explained that her daughter had $5, that she gave her $7, that her daughter lost $2 on the street, and that she then gave her an extra dollar so she could get lunch. She said she later handed a young woman who works there $20.

She said that when it came time to settle her bill or get her change, the employee told her she had not given any money. “I need my change to do stuff with,” she said. She stated that she had come in with $70 because she had something that cost $55 she planned on getting, and that the rest was going to be her spending money for the week. She described herself as a hard-working woman who had just gotten paid and said her paycheck is for bills.

The employee denied receiving $20

The woman pointed to a framed permit from the Ulster County Department of Health for Broadway Donuts, LLC at 571-577 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401. A sign behind the counter read “NO BILLS OVER $20.” She also showed a young woman wearing glasses, a brown uniform shirt, and a black apron.

A police officer in a dark blue uniform spoke with her about the employee’s account. He said the daughter had placed an order, that the transaction was finished, and the change had been given back.

He then said the woman decided to place a second order after that and said she gave the employee the $20. “That’s where the discrepancy is coming from,” the officer said. He added that the employee was saying no money ever hit the counter. The chain’s customer service issues extend beyond payment disputes, as a Florida mom was outraged after her daughter allegedly found gloves and burnt bacon in her order.

The woman said that was not correct. “I put the money right there, she took the other one,” she said. The officer said they needed to check the security cameras. He said that if they saw on camera that the $20 never exchanged, then it was not due back.

“I know my truth,” the woman said. She also said the staff were trying to look at the cameras and that the employee was on the phone with corporate. She repeated that she just wanted her $20 back and that, at that point, it was a matter of principle.

After what she described as almost half an hour, the employee came back from a back room and handed her a $20 bill. “I’m very sorry about that,” the employee said. The woman asked why the $20 had been returned after almost half an hour and what exactly had happened.

The employee said it was an in-house thing. “Listen, you have your $20,” the employee said. “Just go.” The employee also said, “Please go. I’m very sorry for the inconvenience.” The woman took the money and thanked her. For Dunkin’, the complaints don’t stop at order disputes, as an Illinois woman wished an employee a good day, only to allegedly be called a weirdo.

Viewers commenting on the TikTok video pointed out that checking the store-camera footage would’ve easily solved the dispute. One commenter asked, “Don’t they have cameras?” Another wrote, “all they need to do is look at the cameras.” A third said, “make manager count it.” Another commenter wrote, “But if it was the customer you would be arrested.”
