‘It’s gonna be a long flight for you’: woman refuses to swap seats for a couple on Jetstar flight, and they don’t take it well

A woman who refused to swap her seat on a long-haul Jetstar flight claimed the couple who asked her became strangely antagonistic towards her afterwards. The story was shared on TikTok and has prompted a discussion on entitled airline passengers and whether you should or should not ever swap seats on a flight.

TikToker “@aussarah420,” claimed that she was approached by the couple who asked if she would swap seats. However, Sarah said she told them no, as “it was a long-haul flight.” She went on to add, “I’ve never stood up for myself like that before.”

In most cases, that would be the end of the interaction; after all, Sarah wasn’t obligated to surrender the seat she paid for just because someone asked her to. However, she claimed that the couple that asked didn’t take kindly to the refusal, with the woman allegedly sitting down next to her and telling Sarah, “It’s going to be a long flight for you.”

Despite the vague apparent threat, Sarah remained in her seat only for the woman to repeat her threat: “I was just Snapchatting my sister like I was just telling her about it and then the lady like pops her head like, ‘yeah it’s gonna be a long flight.’” Sarah seemed taken aback by the whole interaction but clarified, “she was American, I feel like that’s important.”

Sarah’s flight gets weirder

About 20 minutes passed before the woman apparently started acting weird again as Sarah claimed she started taking her photo. “The whole thing was so strange,” she said but maintained that you should “always say no when someone asks to swap seats on a plane.”

Sarah also posted another video, which she apparently recorded during her flight, in which she can be heard asking the flight attendant to “ask her to stop taking my photo.” According to her, the woman claimed to be an influencer, “and that was apparently reasoning enough.”

Her video sparked a conversation on TikTok as commenters shared their own stories about seat-swapping as well as offering their own tactics for avoiding people who ask to swap. One viewer who claims they had a lady complain when they wouldn’t swap seats claims they told her, “if the plane crashes I would like the remains associated to my assigned seat returned to my family,” which, apparently, shut down the argument pretty quickly.

Others expressed surprise that the flight attendants didn’t do more. One person claimed Jetsar has a strict policy when it comes to people remaining in their designated seats.
