Man buys BTS tickets for sister’s birthday. Then he allegedly quits his job to make sure she gets to go: ‘It was the last straw’

A man who bought BTS concert tickets as a surprise present for his sister says his manager became “insane” when they found out and demanded he hand them over.

In a post on Reddit’s r/offmychest, the man says he doesn’t know much about “a Korean band called BTS” except that his sister “absolutely loves them”. However, she was disappointed that she couldn’t get the extremely in-demand and expensive tickets for herself.

So her brother decided it would be a fantastic birthday surprise if he could get her tickets. And so (with his friends’ help) he succeeded in securing two tickets to a date on BTS’s UK tour. Then he says manager at work found out about it:

“My manager overheard my colleague and I talking about concert and is now demanding that I hand over the tickets. The only reason I was even talking to my colleague about it was because my colleague was telling me about the time he went to a concert at the same stadium I’m taking my sister to. My manager is desperate for tickets and because they are sold out is demanding mine.”

“More and more demanding and won’t let it go”

He says, “I obviously said no but that wasn’t the end of it”, reporting that his manager got “more and more demanding and won’t let it go”. He added that “I’m going to have to make a complaint because I’ve told my manager to leave it alone already.”

Having gotten this off their chest, he disappeared but later gave an update on what happened. He says that the manager’s demands for the tickets pushed him to quit the job altogether. There were other issues at the workplace, but, “when my manager started demanding that I hand over the tickets it was the last straw.”

He says he reported them to HR, but instead of action being taken he was encouraged to find a “compromise”. This wasn’t good enough for him and he goes on to confirm that the “manager continued to badger me about the tickets right up until my last day.”

But, thankfully, there’s a happy ending:

“My sister was absolutely over the moon about the tickets. She had the best time at the concert. As I mentioned in my first post I only knew who BTS is because of my sister and I don’t listen to their music, so the concert was meh for me, but my sister was excited and had an amazing time so that’s all that matters to me.”

There was little sympathy for the manager in the comments and heavy criticism of HR’s advice that this employee find a “compromise”. As one poster said: “It’s just so slimy that “compromise” was HR’s solution to a superior trying to bully OOP into giving their own purchased personal belongings to them. OOP purchased those tickets themselves and are the only person entitled to them. What a whack job of a manager.”
