Man cancels his $200,000 wedding after hearing his fiancée’s opinion on the Lindsay Clancy trial: ‘I was gonna get married to a monster’

A TikTok user who posts as David Marumbao (@marumbao) said in a video that he canceled a wedding planned for the following month after asking his ex what she thought about the Lindsay Clancy case. The clip, which he filmed from a car while wearing a light-colored jacket, gold necklaces, and a flag pin, opened with on-screen text that read, “I just cancelled my wedding.”

Marumbao said she told him Clancy was innocent because he would never understand what a woman goes through. He said he then asked about the children and that she replied, “Who cares?” He added, “So you know what, $200,000 done.” He also said, “But I can’t believe I was gonna get married to a monster.”

The TikTok video was posted under the caption “I just canceled my wedding because she thinks Lindsay Clancy.” It later drew a large audience, with the post listed at 5 million views, 420,900 likes, and 23,200 comments. Marumbao later posted a second video after a woman criticized him online.

Lindsay Clancy is accused of killing her three children in 2023

Lindsay Marie Musgrove Clancy is a former labor and delivery nurse who lived in Duxbury, Massachusetts, with her husband, Patrick Clancy, and their three children, Cora, Dawson, and Callan. According to Biography, prosecutors allege that on January 24, 2023, she strangled the children with exercise bands after asking her husband to pick up takeout and medicine.

Patrick Clancy later found her outside the home, bleeding after what she said was a jump from a window. Cora and Dawson were pronounced dead the same day. Callan died on January 27. All three deaths were attributed to ligature strangulation. Clancy was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and pleaded not guilty.

Her defense team has argued she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and was not criminally responsible. Court coverage has described a history of postpartum anxiety after earlier births and more severe symptoms after Callan’s birth in 2022, including little sleep, exhaustion, voices, and suicidal thoughts. She sought care, was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder, spent five days at McLean Hospital, and was prescribed many medications, according to reports.

Clancy does not deny killing the children in the defense framing described in that account, but she has denied guilt on the basis of postpartum psychosis. Her husband issued a statement after her arraignment saying he had forgiven her. She is now paraplegic and uses a wheelchair after the jump. Her 2026 trial in Plymouth County ended in a mistrial on September 4 after the jury could not reach a verdict.

According to The Policy Center, postpartum psychosis is a rare psychiatric emergency that can include hallucinations, delusions, paranoia, and disorganized thinking. The group has said symptoms can come and go and that family members often notice changes first. It has also said there is no standard self-screening tool because psychosis can affect a person’s ability to report symptoms reliably.

In a follow-up TikTok, Marumbao played a reaction from Jessica Alvarado, who called him “machista.” On-screen text in his video read, “CRAZY LADY IS CALLING ME MACHISTA BECAUSE I CANCELED MY WEDDING.” He said she was “100% sure” his ex never said she did not care about the children and that “these typical women hate men.” He told men to “run.”

Alvarado said in the clip he played, “I’m so angry.” She also said, “Your machismo, your narcissist, and your misogyny is duly noted.” She argued the only person who “came out winning” was his ex and said she could “guarantee you for a fact that was not her response.” She called walking away from a $200,000 wedding a “red flag” and said he did not ask why his fiancée thought Clancy was innocent.

Alvarado said, “Because you, sir, do not know what a woman goes through when she is pregnant. How her body changes, how her hormones play into her day-to-day life, and then she has to give birth.” Marumbao cut the clip off and said, “You know what, I had enough.” He added that listening to her made him want to go to Asia or South America “because it’s annoying.”

Viewers split over the video. Some treated Marumbao’s decision as the right call. One woman wrote, “I’m a woman you did the right thing.” Others argued the cost of the wedding said as much as the argument itself, with one commenter writing, “$200k for a wedding is dumb.” Ending a costly engagement over a moral disagreement is not unheard of, as one woman’s wedding imploded after she found her fiancé was already married.

A different group said his ex came out ahead. One person wrote, “She definitely dodged a bullet. I hope she finds a kind man someday.” Another took the same view from the other direction: “I think you did her a huge favor by cancelling the wedding.” A third suggested the Clancy question was not the real issue, writing, “Looks like you have been looking for a way out.” The decision to cancel a wedding over a partner’s views can draw strong reactions, as seen when a California woman called off her wedding after ignoring warning signs.

The case itself drew sharper lines. One commenter wrote, “big W for lindsay clancy.” Another rejected the idea that hormones could explain the killings, writing, “Blaming murder on hormones, is like blaming rape on testosterone.”
