The TikTok account @luckycharmedcourt posted a series of videos of an incident that caused serious hygiene concerns in a dining area on a Carnival cruise ship and of the passenger reporting it to staff.
The first video was captioned “Part 1 Foot Fungus Lady on Carnival Cruise.” In that clip, a woman in a maroon long-sleeved shirt appeared to hold and scratch the sole of her bare left foot at the table.
After scratching her foot for a while, the woman kept eating her pizza with that same hand. A woman is seen seating beside her who wore an orange open-knit top. The video reached 45.1 million views, 1.4 million likes and more than 183,300 comments.
Later video shows passenger using a table fork on her foot and then speaking with staff
In a follow-up TikTok video captioned “Part 2 Foot Fungus Lady on Carnival Cruise using FORKS,” the woman in the maroon top appeared to scratch the sole of her own bare foot with a fork from the dining table. Carnival cruise passengers have reported other issues too, as one woman said a flood in her cabin ruined thousands of dollars of belongings.
Among the series of videos, the account posted another TikTok video titled “Part 8 (They KEPT THE FORK).” It showed the woman who filmed the earlier clips speaking with a cruise ship employee about the utensils. She said, “We know that, you know, you say you have these high-tech machines that clean the ports and all that stuff, and it’s definitely not 100% guaranteed. I’ve definitely seen food in the ports.” She added, “But you know what’s gonna slide through the loop. That little foot fungus for.”
The employee stated, “No, just the United States Public Health Board advises, so we follow with that standard.” He said that if the ship fails an inspection, it cannot sail.
The woman filming asked, “And so what, what do we do from here? Because I feel like that’s a very big purpose for everyone.” She said passengers expect clean utensils and added, “But now we got foot fungus on our utensils.”
She suggested plastic or wooden utensils going forward and said, “What if we hadn’t caught this on video? Then we, we don’t know what we’re eating off of because none of your instruments are 100% guaranteed.”
The employee said, “I can only escalate it, ma’am. I can give you, I can give an apology on my side because I didn’t see the person.” He stated the fork was “in limbo” and that he did not know where it was. Carnival’s troubles go beyond passenger hygiene, as a Louisiana man alleged he was treated like a criminal before boarding.
He said he could not discard 1,000 to 2,000 utensils without approval from a product director. The woman filming replied that it was “very disappointing because that one could end up in 1,000.”
The video received a lot of comments. One questioned the public setting and wrote, “why is she just so comfortable doing this in public?” Another said the condition might not be fungus and wrote, “I don’t think that’s foot fungus. It looks like psoriasis.”
Some asked if staff had been notified. One wrote, “Time to alert staff. please please please tell me you reported this to the staff.” A further commenter wrote, “People are so DISGUSTING!!!” One more added, “Ewww I hope she was reported. That is severe athletes foot and I guarantee she went to the pool area. Very contagious.”
