Woman takes Uber home. Then the driver allegedly locks the doors and shows up at her house 3 days later: ‘I’m getting kidnapped’

The fare dispute allegedly followed her home

A woman said an Uber driver locked the doors after dropping her at home and then showed up at her house three days later. The woman, who posts on TikTok as Ellsmiaa, described the older male driver refusing to let her out over a disputed fare while she sat inside the car.

In her TikTok video, Ellsmiaa stated that the problem started as soon as she arrived at her house. She said the driver insisted she had not paid the £36.20 fare even after she showed him her bank details. She claimed he called Uber support, which confirmed the payment, but he still would not unlock the doors.

Ellsmiaa said she began to panic and thought, “Oh my God, like I’m getting kidnapped.” She stated she offered to pay the fare a second time if it meant she could leave. The driver eventually unlocked the door, she said, and she ran inside because she is always home alone. She then called her dad and told him she thought she was about to be kidnapped.

Police place marker on home and plan to speak with driver

Ellsmiaa said she later received calls from a random number that turned out to be the driver. Two days after the ride, she stated she was sitting in her bed by the front window when he pulled up. She claimed he could see she was home and began banging on the door and opening the letterbox for about 10 minutes while she hid.

She said she went to the top of the stairs and noticed the door was unlocked. In a WhatsApp message to her dad that she shared on screen, she wrote “Dad, ring me right now. Help, Dad.” She stated she then called Uber, which banned the driver’s account rather than ordering him to leave. A doorbell camera clip in the video showed a white car outside, followed by a blurred clip of a car driving away.

In a follow-up TikTok video, Ellsmiaa addressed comments while getting ready for the police station. She said her dad, who is in another country, initially thought she was being dramatic. She explained she had already contacted police and was preparing to hand in evidence. She stated the driver was a fully English white man and asked people to stop racist comments.

In her latest update on TikTok, Ellsmiaa said she spent two hours at the police station and gave a statement. While she was there, she received a motion alert at her front door and told officers the man was back. She stated police blue-lighted to the house but stopped the wrong person. She claimed officers decided only to speak with the driver the next day and tell him not to return, rather than arrest or question him.

Ellsmiaa said a marker was placed on her house so a 999 call would bring officers straight there. She stated the company had already told the man not to come back, yet he still returned. She said police indicated that if the behavior continued, they could pursue a harassment case. She added that she remains on edge and checks her door often. Her fear echoes other riders who felt unsafe in ride-shares, such as a Massachusetts passenger who called cops during a 3 a.m. ride.

Viewers responded with their own stories and advice. One person described a similar scare involving a friend and wrote, “Happened to my mate. she was terrified.” One person warned against sharing too much personal detail and commented, “Girl don’t tell the internet you live alone.”

Another shared a personal experience and said, “That’s crazy! I once had a driver refuse to unlock the door until I held his hand and he forced me to save his number on my phone.” Similar ride-share scares have surfaced elsewhere, including a woman in France whose driver hotboxed and locked the car.
