Woman’s Airbnb host in the Appalachian Mountains kept making jokes about hiding bodies. What she found in his ‘prohibited’ room made her run

Her dog apparently already knew something was way off.

A woman said she left an Airbnb in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia after the property’s host allegedly made repeated jokes about hiding a body, and after she allegedly found a container of what she described as human teeth inside a room he had told her not to enter.

The woman, who posts under the username @jbird_9 and goes by Sparrow, shared the account in a TikTok video that has been viewed more than 317,200 times and received over 16,100 likes. She said in the video that she had been staying at the property with her dogs while on a family vacation.

The video’s caption reads, “I think my Airbnb host unalive someone.” She claimed in the video that she had been livestreaming at night in the woods near the property for several days without any issues before the incident took place.

She says her dog’s reaction to the host was her first warning sign

Sparrow said in the video that she began to suspect something was wrong after finally meeting the Airbnb’s owner in person. She said her dog Dakota, who she claimed is usually afraid of men, acted normally around the host. However, she said her other dog, Harley, who she described as a “people lover,” was “snarling and growling” at him, which she said forced her to put the dog in a separate room.

She said she initially believed the host’s behavior was simply that of a “mountain man” who was used to being alone, and said she assumed his mannerisms were normal for someone living in a rural, isolated area.

Sparrow mentioned the situation changed after the host allegedly made several jokes about having hidden a body. She said in the video, “How many times do you need to make jokes about where you’ve hid bodies?” She said that by the third joke, she began to feel “really uncomfortable,” describing it as a gut feeling that “something about this person is off.”

She said the host specifically joked about a body being “out in the field on his property,” and then ended the conversation by telling her he needed to do farm work in that same field. After the host left to work in the field, Sparrow said she went into an upstairs room that “he said was like prohibited.”

She claimed the room contained boxes and folded curtains. She said she searched through the boxes, initially looking for women’s clothing, but said she found only envelopes and what she believed might be financial documents.

She said she then found a smaller box inside a larger one that had a small lock on it. She said she believed it might contain jewelry, so she opened it. Inside, she said she found what she described as “human, adult teeth,” estimating there were “maybe like 50 of them.”

Sparrow claimed she immediately packed up her dogs and left the property. In the video, she said, “I’m gonna call the police,” and asked viewers whether they believed that was the right course of action.

In a comment on the video, Sparrow said she had since contacted police and that an investigation into the matter had been opened. No further public updates on the case or its outcome have been reported since that comment was posted, and the claims made in the video have not been verified.

Several users responded to Sparrow’s video with their own reactions and experiences related to Airbnb rentals. One commenter wrote, “That’s why I don’t trust abnb. I prefer hotels.” Another commenter wrote, “I’ve never even met the owners of any of the Airbnb’s I’ve stayed at. To me that’s the 1st red flag.” These concerns about host behavior are not rare, as in one case a group of friends heard a weird noise only to find the host hiding in the closet

A third commenter wrote, “listen to your instincts, no questions. get out and stay safe.” The advice to trust instincts should not be ignored, as seen when a family had to leave their Airbnb after only three hours when things kept getting worse.
