According to the Fon Du Lac County Sheriff’s Office officers were called out to the scene of a shooting on Friday, April 10. When they arrived they found the two-year-old with a gunshot wound as per People. Sadly the young child was pronounced dead at the scene. While the identity of the child was not made public by authorities a GoFundMe set up for the family revealed the name of the child to be Crewe Zahradnik.

“Our hearts are broken as we share the devastating loss of our Crewe man taken far too soon in a tragic accident.” the GoFundMe reads. The fundraiser was set up to help cover the costs of the funeral, grief counseling, time away from work, and any other expenses the family may face.

“No family ever expects to face such an unimaginable tragedy.” The fundraiser description continues, “The pain, shock, and grief they are experiencing is beyond words.” So far the GoFundMe has seen a great deal of donations with almost $22,000 raised from 266 donors. The top donation is currently $1,000 from an anonymous individual.

Authorities say Crewe was accidentally shot by his older brother

Crewe and two of his siblings had been momentarily left alone in the car on the driveway while their parents went back inside their home to grab something which they had forgotten.

In its statement the Sheriff’s Office stated that Crewe was allegedly shot after his older brother, an unnamed four-year-old, picked up a loaded firearm which had apparently been kept in the central glove compartment of the car. While it was in the young boy’s hands it accidentally went off with the bullet hitting Crewe.

A citizen who had been out for a walk called 911 after hearing the gunshot. Nobody else was harmed by the gunshot wound and no foul play is suspected.

Crewe’s death was truly tragic but the details surrounding the toddler’s death are still being looked into by authorities. The investigation into the incident is ongoing but the family are said to be cooperating with the authorities on the matter.

It’s possible that the family of Crewe could face criminal charges although that won’t be determined until after the investigation is concluded. The Sheriff’s Office stated that “Any criminal charges that may be forthcoming will be determined at a later time upon the conclusion of the investigation.”
