Could you survive the zombie apocalypse? It’s time to find out as Universal Orlando announces ‘The Last of Us’ attraction

We couldn't ask for a better distraction during the show's hiatus.

Universal Studios is hosting Halloween Horror Nights again this year, an event which runs from the beginning of September to the end of October annually. Marketed as containing haunted houses and scare zones, the Orlando attractions consistently bring in huge crowds during the Halloween season. Good news for The Last of Us fans — hot on the heels of the first season ending and the second being announced — as the Twitter account for the Halloween Horror Nights event tweeted about an upcoming interactive attraction tailored after the Naughty Dog franchise, which became an international TV sensation.

An announcement video was also posted to the official Halloween Horror Nights website, which you can view for yourself down below. The Last of Us takes place across Pittsburgh and Boston during an outbreak of a fungal infection known as Cordyceps, which effectively renders living organisms zombified. Joel Miller, a smuggler, must transport 14-year-old Ellie across the United States to meet with a resistance group known as the Fireflies.

And now, Halloween Horror Nights invites gamers and TV bingers alike to enjoy The Last of Us in real life.

If you’re still curious as to what exactly this attraction will entail, the details are a little fuzzy, but the official Halloween Horror Nights website has provided a brief synopsis of the kind of atmosphere you’ll be walking into. This announcement is made amid the game’s 10th anniversary, having released in 2013.

“You and your squad will encounter the haunting and overgrown world of Naughty Dog’s video game in a brand-new, terrifying way, as you make your way through an abandoned Pittsburgh. Join Joel and Ellie, and don’t make a sound if you want to survive Clickers, Hunters and more. No matter what, keep finding something to fight for.”

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Lora Sauls — assistant director, creative development, and show direction at Universal Orlando Resort — said: “We are excited to bring The Last of Us to life in a terrifying haunted house that is true to the spirit of this popular video game featuring our heroes, Joel and Ellie, Clickers and more.”

John Murdy — executive producer of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood — also weighed in: “The world inside the game offers a multitude of suspenseful and horrifying opportunities to provide guests with a one-of-a-kind experience that can only be found at Halloween Horror Nights.”

Tickets are on sale now, so get them while they last and prepare to face the Infected.
