Fans are forever wondering if there will be a crossover between the movie and TV halves of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Usually people imagine this taking the form of the Defenders hopping over to the big screen for an Avengers film, but sadly, this is something that’s been routinely ruled out by the cast and crew on both sides.
What if we’ve been looking at it from the wrong angle, though? What if the more likely way a crossover could happen is for one or more of the movie characters to jump over to the Netflix side of things? Though there’s been no indication of that happening yet, Daredevil star Charlie Cox seems to have hinted that it’s a possibility.
At ACE Comic-Con Long Island this weekend, the same event at which he made clear that he had not been approached to appear in Avengers 4, the man who brings Matt Murdock to life had an interesting reaction when a fan asked whether one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes could show up on his series.
“I’m afraid I can’t tell you that at all. That is a secret,” said the actor.
Of course, just because Cox is being coy doesn’t mean something is in the works. It’s possible that he’s just not allowed to talk about this subject on a contractual level. However, it’s worth remembering that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has managed to include several movie characters over its four seasons so far. Most notably, Samuel L. Jackson turned up for a cameo as Nick Fury back in season 1.
So, just for the fun of it, which Avengers would work best on Daredevil? One that immediately springs to mind is Spider-Man. There’s been a lot of talk of Tom Holland’s Spidey facing Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin in the MCU, or even Jon Bernthal’s Punisher. Both of which could be achieved with a Daredevil crossover. On the other hand, the Man Without Fear’s world might be a bit dark for the friendly, neighbourhood hero. So how about Cox’s own top choice – Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow?
Alternatively, the fan who asked Cox this question at Comic-Con suggested Iron Man could show up. At this, the actor dropped a humorous comment about Robert Downey Jr.’s pricey paychecks.
“I think he’s quite cheap to get as well. I’m sure we can figure that out. His daily rate is like way low.”
Daredevil season 3 is set to arrive on Netflix in 2018.
