The CW has today released a new promo poster for season two of The Flash, just hours before the series returns to the small screen. It obviously doesn’t reveal too much about what we should expect, but it’s a very cool piece of imagery which helps to build the anticipation.

Here’s the synopsis for tonight’s season two premiere of The Flash:

Picking up months after the Singularity attacked Central City, Barry (Grant Gustin) is still struggling to forgive himself for Eddie’s death. Concerned about putting his friends in danger, Barry has pushed everyone away and has chosen to protect the city on his own. When a meta-human named Atom Smasher (guest star Adam Copeland) attacks the city, Iris (Candice Patton) tells Barry that he needs to let his friends help him protect the citizens of Central City. Meanwhile, Cisco (Carlos Valdes) helps Joe (Jesse L. Martin) with his Meta Task Force.

No doubt one of the most interesting things about the poster below is the blue lightning behind Barry. Between this and comments from those involved with the series, it appears as if he’ll be getting some upgraded powers in season two, and this looks likely to be one of them.

We’ll hopefully find out more when The Flash returns later this evening.
