Game Of Thrones Fans Think The Hound Should Win Father Of The Year

While "The Bells" has quickly become one of Game Of Thrones' most criticized episodes, the touching moment between Arya and The Hound was praised.

As sad as it may be, the truth is undeniable. The eighth and final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones has been full of disappointing moments. Aside from pacing issues – the general consensus is that things feel rather rushed and hurried – fans and critics alike have criticized this season’s plot, dialogue, and character motivations. Last week’s episode, “The Bells,” drew ire from the community at large, especially in regards to Dany’s decision to burn the Red Keep to the ground, and the underwhelming deaths of both Jamie and Cersei Lannister.

The series’ penultimate episode was so hated, in fact, that not only is it currently the second lowest-rated on IMDb – beaten out by “The Last of the Starks,” which aired the week before – but it currently holds the record for the worst Rotten Tomatoes score in the show’s history. Needless to say, there’s plenty of criticism to go around, though fans did enjoy one moment from “The Bells” in particular.

As you can see below, longtime viewers seemed to agree that Sandor “The Hound” Clegane (Rory McCann) truly delivered in last Sunday’s episode. Not only was he finally able to exact revenge on his zombified brother, The Mountain, but he also had a touching moment with Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), warning her not to let herself be ruined by her thirst for vengeance.

If you’ll recall, just as Arya was about to infiltrate the Red Keep, Sandor convinced her to flee. Considering that she barely made it out of King’s Landing alive, there’s a good chance she would have died if she decided to stick around. And so, in a fitting tribute, fans took to Twitter to praise The Hound, championing him as “father of the year.”

Needless to say, a few of us at We Got This Covered are equally disappointed with how Game of Thrones has turned out. Here’s hoping that the series finale can rectify the missteps from recent episodes and send things off on a high.
