HBO has announced its critically acclaimed medieval fantasy series Game of Thrones will premiere its second season on Sunday, April 1. The network confirmed the opener will air at 9 pm ET/PT while at the Television Press Critics Association press tour in Pasadena.

Movie Hole is reporting that several characters who appeared on the first season of the Emmy Award-winning series will return for the second season, including Peter Kinklage, Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldeau, Michelle FairleyLena Headey and Kit Harington. Executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will also be working on the upcoming season.

Since several major characters were killed off during Game of Thrones‘ first season, multiple new characters will be brought in to replace them. Among the new characters will be Stannis Baratheon, played by Stephen Dillane, and Carice van Haouten, who will portray Stannis’ magical advisor.

With the absence of so many major characters from the first season, it will be interesting to see if Game of Thrones will succeed during its second season.

What do you think? Will you be watch the upcoming second season?
