With Netflix moving ahead with seasons 3 and 4, the show’s opened its doors to an entirely new cast, including Olivia Colman and the supremely talented Helena Bonham Carter, among many others. It’s been a bittersweet transition, of course, as fans had fallen in love with The Crown‘s OG cast – namely Claire Foy, Vanessa Kirby and former Doctor Who actor Matt Smith, but change is necessary sometimes and in the case of the critically acclaimed royal drama, new actors were required to play the parts given the time jump that’ll occur.

We’ve yet to see much of what Netflix will offer with season 3, but it seems the cast are taking their roles pretty seriously. In the case of Carter, the actress even went so far as to “speak” with Princess Margaret, who she’ll be bringing to life on the show. Of course, the Princess passed away in 2002, but Helena apparently hired a psychic to help her get in touch.

She reportedly wants to make sure she’s doing the late princess justice with her performance and by all accounts Margaret has told her she is doing a great job.

Sources close to Helena Bonham Carter stressed that she likes to thoroughly research her roles and is always ready to do whatever it takes to gather the necessary information, saying:

“She always likes to research her roles with as much depth as possible – and is always prepared to go that extra mile. So if that means using someone with supernatural powers to speak to a character who is now on the other side then Helena has no problems with doing that. She is naturally spiritual and open-minded and is delighted she’s had such positive feedback from the late royal.”

Whether you choose to believe that Carter actually “spoke” to Margaret or not is up to you, but it’s nice to see the actress so dedicated to the role regardless and hopefully she’ll offer up another terrific performance to add to her already wildly impressive list of credits.

Production on The Crown season 3 is now well underway, as evidenced by all the recent set photos, and while an exact premiere date still eludes us, we’ll let you know as soon as Netflix gives us something concrete on that front.
