‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ star is hoping for their own spin-off series

Are you up for a return to Alderaan?

If Obi-Wan Kenobi star Vivien Lyra Blair gets her way, Star Wars: Princess Leia will be coming to a streamer near you. The young actress, who starred as a young Leia Organa on the series, revealed that she would love to make a spin-off about the rebellious Princess happen.

The actress first spoke to The Direct about a possible return to Obi-Wan Kenobi should it receive a second season. Blair was optimistic that the series could continue, due to Ewan McGregor’s enthusiasm. In fact, she shared that the actor “is just begging to do another one. He’s really excited.”

Still, Blair was uncertain about her own return to the series. She rightfully pointed out that the first season ended with the implication that Leia would not see Obi-Wan Kenobi again until A New Hope, and expressed skepticism about how she would fit into the plotline of a second season. Blair revealed that she was really hoping for a spin-off instead:

“… And I think I would love to, but I was saying like, I don’t see how I would fit into it, because it’s very implied that she doesn’t see him again until she asked for help in the fourth movie, ‘A New Hope.’ And so, I think it’s kind of like, how would I fit into that? And so we’re kind of hoping for my own show there. We’re kind of thinking it could be fun to do a show of Leia on Alderaan. And I really hope something like that could work out.”

A spin-off centered on Blair’s Leia could be something special – particularly if it’s a tale about Leia’s teen years, which have largely gone unchronicled. It is known that Leia had a rebellious streak even prior to meeting Luke in A New Hope, and her bold personality (which Blair channels well in Obi-Wan Kenobi) makes her the prime candidate for a new adventure.

Leia’s character also has an incredibly special place in Star Wars. For many years, she was one of the only prominent female characters, but her place in the narrative – she’s speculated to be ‘the other’ hope that Yoda mentions in Empire Strikes Back – hasn’t been explored very deeply in the new canon just yet. A spin-off starring Blair could provide the perfect opportunity to rectify this. Let’s just hope there isn’t another chase scene, and definitely no prison break sequences.
