Set against a suitably epic cover of James’ “Sit Down,” up above you’ll see those three power players – representing House Stark, House Lannister and House Targaryen – slowly approaching their respective throne. In the fallout of Game of Thrones season 6, it is Cersei who currently occupies that all-important Iron Throne, but with Daenerys and her monstrous dragons within touching distance of Westeros – not to mention the impending White Walker invasion up north – her hold on the throne is precarious at best.

And that’s all we know, really. Game of Thrones is a show notorious for secrecy – heck, not even the principal cast members know how things will shake out – so it shouldn’t be all that surprising to learn that HBO’s marketing spiel for season 7 is favoring style over substance for the time being. Remember the elaborate reveal event involving two flamethrowers and a giant block of ice?

Nevertheless, now that we’re inching closer and closer to the show’s curtain call, excitement for Game of Thrones has never been higher. This snippet could well be the first in a long line of promos for season 7, so be sure to stay tuned for more.

Game of Thrones returns to the airwaves with a truncated seventh season on July 16th. It’s the first of HBO’s two-part finale, given co-showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff plan to wind down the network’s fantasy flagship with an eighth and final season in 2018. Unsurprisingly, there have been mooted reports of GOT spinoffs kicking into gear, but one thing’s for sure: Weiss and Benioff’s time in Westeros is coming to an end.
