Rachel McAdams And Colin Farrell Feature In First On-Set Photos From True Detective Season 2

When it arrived unassumingly on the small screen this time last year, HBO's True Detective proved to be an instant hit due to its mix of compelling characters and a masterful sense of suspense. It rose above its other contemporaries as a police drama with real clout behind it, but with season two slated to go the anthology route and reset the entire set-up, fans are curious about how the series will continue.

When it arrived unassumingly on the small screen this time last year, HBO’s True Detective proved to be an instant hit due to its mix of compelling characters and a masterful sense of suspense. It rose above its other contemporaries as a police drama with real clout behind it, but with season two slated to go the anthology route and reset the entire set-up, fans are curious about how the series will continue.

Whatever the outcome in front of the camera, today we’ve been given a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of True Detective season two, which sees Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch assume the leading roles in lieu of Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey.

Plot details are, as you’d imagine, scarce on the ground at this early stage, but that hasn’t stopped HBO from releasing character descriptions for each of the aforementioned stars. First and foremost, season two will center around three lawful personas this time around, with Farrell embodying Ray Velcoro, a well-respected detective who finds his allegiance to the badge tested by the mob boss to whom he owes a substantial amount of money. McAdams, on the other hand, will step into the shoes of Ani Bezzerides (who appears to be in action in the gallery below), an officer with an astute moral compass that puts her at ends with the other members of the force.

As for Vaughn and Kitsch, the actors are set to star as a criminal lawyer and a motorcycle officer, respectively, with the latter character also having a muddled history on the front lines.

HBO has slated True Detective‘s sophomore season to air in the summer of this year. We’ll keep you posted on the status of the show as we inch closer to its anticipated return, but for now, you can check out the gallery below for a glimpse of the all-new cast.
