New Supergirl Promo Reveals First Footage Of Lex Luthor

Though Supergirl tells the story of Kara Zor-El first and foremost, it's nearly impossible to avoid certain hallmarks of the DC Universe given her relationship to Superman. Already, Tyler Hoechlin's suited up as the Man of Steel on several occasions and we've also seen other notable characters like James Olsen and Cat Grant putting in appearances as well.

With all that in mind, you’d think that Lex Luthor wouldn’t be far behind, but aside from seeing him in his younger days via a flashback sequence, he’s only been name-dropped around National City. That’s all about to change though, as season 4 will finally bring us the moment we’ve all been waiting for, as Jon Cryer will debut as the Big Blue Boy Scout’s most famous foe in “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”

The episode airs this Sunday and now, to hype it up a bit, The CW’s released a new promo which gives us our very first look at the iconic villain in action. The whole thing’s only about a minute long, but it features quite a bit of Lex and provides a tantalizing taste of what Cryer’s take on the character will be like.

The synopsis for the episode, meanwhile, teases even more about what we can expect from Lex’s grand entrance, and it appears that Lena will need to decide if she has any allegiance to her brother when he asks for her help.

“JON CRYER GUEST STARS AS ICONIC DC COMICS’ VILLAIN LEX LUTHOR

“Secretly furloughed from prison due to failing health, Lex Luthor (guest star Jon Cryer) visits his sister, Lena (Katie McGrath), to seek her help finding a cure. Savvy as ever, Lena is suspicious of Lex’s motives but when she’s faced with a life and death situation, she must decide how she truly feels about her brother.

“Meanwhile, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and J’onn (David Harewood) face off against Manchester Black (guest star David Ajala). James’ sister Kelly (guest star Azie Tesfai) comes to town.”

Those familiar with the source material may remember when Lex fell gravely ill after prolonged exposure to Kryptonite gave him cancer. From the sounds of the above synopsis, it’s possible that Supergirl will be drawing from that arc, which could mean that Lex will have an even stronger hatred for the House of El if their planet is to blame. In other words, Kara better watch out.

Be sure to catch Lex make his big debut when Supergirl airs this Sunday on The CW.
