Despite what Hollywood would have us believe, not all villains are purely evil. In fact, many of them are often conflicted individuals who are horribly confused. Or, in some cases, they are forced to behave a certain way due to unfortunate circumstances. Of course, there’s a multitude of other scenarios as well, but when it all comes down to it, there’s no denying that many movie and television villains are simply misunderstood.
There’s so many, in fact, that compiling a list of just 20 was rather difficult. What started off as a collection of 50 was whittled down to just 20 iconic characters who we found to be great examples of villains who were portrayed as the primary antagonists of their respective stories, but weren’t necessarily bad people.
We know that you may have already seen this list elsewhere on the web, as it’s a popular topic, but here’s our own little spin on 20 film/TV villains who were just misunderstood.
