8 Captain America: Civil War Rumors That We Hope Come True

Captain America: Civil War is by far one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2016, and looks set to be perhaps the biggest one, too (sorry, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). As the first film in Marvel's Phase 3, it's going to set the stage for everything to come, as Captain America and Iron Man go to war and the Avengers are divided. Regardless of how close to Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's Civil War the film ends up sticking, it's still going to be historic, especially as it's going to feature Spider-Man's debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course, with Civil War being such a huge movie, there are inevitably a lot of rumours surrounding it. Regardless of how accurate these are or the reliability of the source they hail from, here you will find the eight biggest Captain America: Civil War rumours from the past year or so, all of which we hope to see become a reality on the big screen in 2016. Needless to say, there are some potentially huge spoilers ahead for the movie... 8) Tony Stark Creates Spider-Man's Web-Shooters Very little is known about Tom Holland's Spider-Man other than the fact that he'll only be 15 years old and will have a homemade costume when we first meet him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Rumours about how long Peter Parker has been a hero range from a month to a year, but based on one report, it doesn't sound as if we should expect him to have his web-shooters at this stage. In a pretty major departure from the source material, Tony Stark will apparently be the one to create those, while he'll also come up with a new Avengers approved suit for the youngster to wear. The latter makes sense (the Iron Spider costume is thought to be off the table, so Marvel will no doubt be looking to put their own spin of his classic red and blue duds), but it feels more likely that Tony will improve Peter's web-shooters rather than creating them from scratch. Either way, it would be great to see these two science enthusiasts in the lab together and would replicate the same mentor/mentee relationship the characters had before and during the Civil War comic, giving this Spider-Man someone to look up to as he then embarks on his own adventures. 7) Iron Man Heads Into Outer Space Initially rumoured to be the ending of Iron Man 3, this also cropped up in relation to Captain America: Civil War not too long ago. While James Gunn has outright denied that Iron Man will show up in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, it's believed that the events of the war among Earth's Mightiest Heroes will lead to Tony Stark deciding to leave the planet and take to the skies in search of the threat he believes is coming after the events of The Avengers. In fact, Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America are all expected to be taken off the board for Marvel's Phase 3 until Avengers: Infinity War - Part 2. That makes sense because the focus of Phase 3 is clearly going to be all about the new heroes being introduced (Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, etc.), and seeing this happen would be great for a number of reasons. For starters, it makes Iron Man's eventual return all the more exciting - the same applies for Cap, who may be imprisoned, and Thor, who is expected to be captured by Thanos, of course - while this move could also set up Iron Man 4: Planet Hulk, especially as the Green Goliath is currently missing. That movie may be wishful thinking unfortunately, but hey, you never know... 6) Ant-Man Goes Giant Of all the rumours listed here, this one has perhaps the best chance of coming true, as it comes from a site which had many of its scoops confirmed when the Captain America: Civil War trailer was played at D23. In the movie, we know that Scott Lang is going to be on Captain America's side, and while it's been reported that Ant-Man is going to have some very cool moments (including sitting on the tip of one of Hawkeye's arrows and being shot at one of the heroes on Iron Man's team), having him at some point transforming into Giant-Man would just be downright amazing to see. Ant-Man is apparently getting an updated version of his current costume for Captain America: Civil War, and just like how it stays on when he shrinks, the same will presumably be the case when he grows as well. Scott already played around with his regulator in his own movie when he travelled into the Quantum Realm, so him doing the same during a hard fought battle makes sense, and seeing Iron Man's Avengers battling it out with a gigantic Ant-Man would certainly make for a memorable moment. Hopefully Scott doesn't end up meeting the same fate as Civil War's Goliath though. 5) Black Panther And Iron Man Want The Winter Soldier Before Spider-Man was added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was rumoured that Black Panther would be filling in for him as a neutral party in the war between Captain America and Iron Man. However, the leaked promo art depicting the Wakandan hero standing tall with the latter has seemingly made it clear that he'll be choosing a side, and rumours point to Black Panther and Captain America having a show stealing fight at some point in Captain America: Civil War. What brings T'Challa and Tony Stark together? Well, it's not their mutual love of science, but The Winter Soldier! While the main conflict between Captain America and Iron Man will revolve around the Superhuman Registration Act, Bucky will also factor into that. Tony apparently discovers that Cap's sidekick was responsible for the death of his parents, while the Winter Soldier was no doubt dispatched to Wakanda at some point by Hydra in the decades they used him as an assassin. Adding this personal conflict into Captain America: Civil War is a must, especially as it will add even greater stakes to the fight between the heroes. 4) The Hulk Shows Up There have been a lot of rumours about The Hulk showing up in Captain America: Civil War, and as of right now, we really have no idea whether or not Mark Ruffalo is going to be making a surprise appearance (it would be very cool to see him utilized as a weapon just like the clone of Thor was in the Civil War comic book). However, an even more interesting Hulk related rumour for this movie is the fact that William Hurt's General Ross is going to end up transforming into the Red Hulk, a twist which no one would see coming, mostly because it's so completely random and out of the blue! There's no doubt a way this movie could explain it, but do we really need a Red Hulk? The comic book version of this character has never been particularly well-liked, but if there's anyone who could fix that, it's Kevin Feige and the Russo Brothers. It's been a long time since we saw General Ross in The Incredible Hulk, so who knows what he's been getting up to since then? Seeing The Hulk save New York City alongside The Avengers can't have been easy for him, and depending on who he's been spending time with - Baron Zemo, perhaps? - it's possible he's undergone a transformation... 3) The Death Of Captain America The Civil War comic book concludes with Captain America surrendering after realizing the peril that the fight between the two sides of heroes is putting normal people in. In an epilogue, Steve Rogers is shot dead by Crossbones, and as a result, speculation has been running rampant ever since Captain America: Civil War was announced that the same will be happening on the big screen next year. As a result, this has become a popular rumour, albeit one which has been confused somewhat by the fact that Chris Evans has actually revealed that he starts shooting Avengers: Infinity War next year. Captain America being killed would certainly shake up Phase 3 in a major way, and would also give Sebastian Stan's Bucky the chance to wield the shield as he did in the comic books. For that reason alone, this happening would be great to see, and such a shocking moment would ensure that Captain America: Civil War cements itself as THE "vs." film of 2016 by adapting a moment from the comics guaranteed to overshadow Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in a major way. That aside, and the fallout alone in the MCU from Cap's death is something which is worth exploring. 2) Spider-Man Vs. Captain America According to one report, Spider-Man has a scene stealing and visually unique fight with one hero in Captain America: Civil War, and another report claims that it will be against Steve Rogers. It sounds like comedy is going to come into this battle somehow, and while that hopefully won't involve Cap being humiliated in some way by the inexperienced youngster, it would certainly be very cool to see Peter Parker show off what he's got by squaring off against the leader of The Avengers. In both the Civil War comic book and one of Spider-Man's tie-in issues, he and Cap had some great battles, often fighting to a standstill. Marvel Studios needs to find a way to differentiate their Spider-Man from what's come before, and having him engage in a memorable battle with Captain America which will live on forever in .gif form and on YouTube is certainly one way of going about that. What's best for business aside though, and seeing Cap and Spidey knocking seven bells out of each other really would be like the comics coming to life, and who wouldn't want to see that on the big screen? 1) Red Skull Returns While Hugo Weaving has said on a number occasions that he's not keen on the idea of returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Red Skull, that doesn't mean he couldn't return in some other form (the villain has had a number of bodies over the years, and even wore a Red Skull mask for a time). In Captain America: Civil War, Daniel Bruhl is playing Baron Zemo, but with rumours swirling that the plan in the movie is to bring back the Red Skull, there are those who believe that his ultimate goal is to resurrect the former leader of Hydra in some way, or that he is actually the Red Skull. Whatever the answer may be, it would be amazing to see this iconic bad guy back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If Weaving really doesn't want to come back, then let Bruhl take over. F rom a story point of view, having Earth's Mightiest Heroes go to war with each other while Zemo works on resurrecting one of history's greatest villains would also be pretty spectacular, especially if Captain America: Civil War ends with the Red Skull back and ready to bring the world to its knees. The Avengers meanwhile would be fractured, with Captain America possibly behind bars, or even dead...
