Halloween Belongs To Jigsaw In This Horrifying First Trailer For Saw Sequel

The demented legacy of Jigsaw lives on in this nightmarish first teaser trailer for Michael and Peter Spierig's Saw sequel.

Remember when Jigsaw co-director Michael Spierig (Daybreakers) promised some “pretty wild traps” ahead of October’s Saw sequel?

Well, thanks to the film’s blood-curdling first trailer, we now have an idea of the horrors in store, and it seems as though the twisted legacy of John Kramer has taken on a new form. Tobin Bell’s demented serial killer actually bit the bullet during Saw III in 2006, so Michael and Peter Spierig have been quick to play down talk of Bell returning – either via flashback or some form of unexpected appearance. That doesn’t necessarily mean that a cameo is completely out of the question though – the film is called Jigsaw, after all – particularly when you consider the fact that John Kramer’s voice can be heard in today’s first-look teaser. “The truth will set you free.”

From there, the nightmare-inducing footage cuts to some form of containment room (see below), where five hapless souls are chained up and bound to crude steel helmets. Things only escalate from there, so don’t be fooled into thinking that Jigsaw is about to shy away from the gore; this is Saw for 2017, as Michael Spierig so aptly put.

We’ve got some pretty wild traps in the film — we don’t shy away from the gore. It’s such a perfect Halloween scare-fest. It’s perhaps not quite as vicious and more fun, which is something we tried to inject into it. But it’s still full of good fun gore, that’s for sure. And, on top of that, it’s got a really great mystery, and there are very interesting twists. It’s Saw for 2017.

Directing from a script by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, the Spierig Brothers have gathered together an ensemble cast, including Mandela Van Peebles, Laura Vandervoort, Brittany Allen, Callum Keith Rennie, Matt Passmore, Hannah Emily Anderson, Josiah Black, Shaquan Lewis, Michael Bolsvert, and James Gomez.

Lionsgate plans to unleash a whole new reign of terror on October 27th. But do you believe the studio’s Saw sequel will herald the return of Jigsaw? Or are you of the belief that the film’s core cast are simply chasing ghosts? Let us know your predictions in the usual spot.
