Weapon X Instagram Account Provides A New Look At Caliban In Logan

On March 3rd, Hugh Jackman will hang up the adamantium claws for good. James Mangold's Logan heralds the last outing for the actor as the iconic Wolverine. One final time, and then it's all over. Or at least, for Jackman it is. Speculation points to the young X-23 (played by Dafne Keen) taking up the mantle once Wolvie rides off into the sunset, which would be a smart move on the studio's part.

So far, all signs indicate this film being the solo outing that the character deserves. X-Men Origins: Wolverine was a disaster, to put it lightly, and The Wolverine was a solid yet somewhat flawed effort. As such, expectations for Logan to deliver are through the roof, but something tells us it won’t have any trouble impressing. At least, not if that recent trailer is any indication of the final product.

While 20th Century Fox has been playing it pretty close to the chest with the marketing campaign so far, the film’s Instagram account continues to deliver mysterious, black and white images, teasing us with what’s to come. The latest one arrives today and features Caliban standing in some sort of structure that’s been pierced with bullet holes (see it down below). No context is given for what we’re looking at, but speculation has already begun.

The shot is particularly intriguing as the Caliban was seen in last year’s X-Men: Apocalypse but is being played here by a different actor (Stephen Merchant). Of course, this has led to a lot of questions regarding his role in Logan and while this new photo doesn’t deliver any answers, it’s still an exciting shot and one that may just give us a few small hints as to what exactly he’s up to.

Described as a “mutant nurse” in the film, Caliban is also known for his mutant-tracking abilities, which could come into play here as well. We likely won’t learn more until Mangold’s threequel arrives in just over a month, but we’re inclined to believe that the character will be an important part of the plot, as he’s been featured a fair bit in the relatively limited marketing that we’ve seen thus far.

Either way, all will be revealed when Logan claws its way into theaters on March 3rd. Aside from Jackman, Keen and Merchant, the film stars Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Eriq La Salle and more.
