Amazon and MGM scoop up Guy Ritchie and Jake Gyllenhaal’s action thriller

Amazon and MGM have stepped in to secure the distribution rights to Jake Gyllenhaal and Guy Ritchie's untitled action thriller.

At the beginning of October, it was revealed that Guy Ritchie and Jake Gyllenhaal would be teaming up for an untitled action thriller, before the first details emerged later in the month.

At the time, the project was dubbed as The Interpreter, with Gyllenhaal starring as Sergeant John Kinley, a solider who returns to Afghanistan to repay a debt to the man who saved his life during a previous tour of duty, with the local translator now facing a desperate race to safety after being denied safe passage to America, while also becoming a target of the local militia.

Deadline has now offered an update, and while the movie is back to being untitled again, the combined might of Amazon and MGM have stepped in to secure distribution. As a result, the $55 million picture will stream exclusively on Prime Video in many international markets including Europe, Australia, Canada, Latin America, and South Africa.

However, it’s set for a theatrical release in the United States via MGM’s United Artists subsidiary, which could be an interesting sign of things to come following Amazon’s recent acquisition of the studio. Either way, production begins in less than two weeks, so we’re most likely looking at an early-to-mid 2023 release date on the big and small screen.
