With fury at an all-time high, Netflix is unveiling its upcoming slate of new and renewed shows at the worst time

The circumstances certainly aren't ideal.

Following the recent axing of wildly popular fantasy series Lockwood & Co. after a solitary season, which marked the streaming service’s 26th such cancellation in a little over three years, subscribers have become more jaded than ever with Netflix and its business practices.

While several high-profile and certifiably successful smash hits have been renewed recently – with political thrillers The Recruit, The Night Agent, and The Diplomat standing out among the crowd – it’s the ones that don’t exist on the airwaves any more that have been generating the majority of headlines, and not many of them have been of a positive variety.

With that in mind, Netflix’s upfronts presentation taking place later today couldn’t be happening at worse moment, with the company set to announce a raft of new and renewed shows when fury is at an all-time high among the customer base for the sheer number that were only given a short amount of time before being ruthlessly culled.

There could be a chance that a third season of Shadow and Bone will be among the announcements – which would certainly placate a lot of people based on the growing concerns it could be next for the chopping block – it’ll be very curious to see which titles are confirmed for additional runs, what new properties are coming to the table, and which high-profile projects go completely unmentioned to create even more uncertainty and unease among their respective fandoms.

It’s not all doom and gloom in the world of Netflix, but it can be if you’ve got a soft spot for fantasy, which sets the stage for a fascinating presentation.
