Marvel Studios has secretly started shooting on a movie that’s already disappointed fans in their droves

That makes three MCU films currently in production.

On the same week that Deadpool 3 officially began production and amid a flurry of somewhat controversial snaps from the set of Captain America: New World Order, a third Marvel Studios movie has been confirmed to have secretly started shooting. While we’ve yet to get any photographic evidence of this one going before cameras, a bit of detective work reveals this to be the case.

While speaking with Poker Face cinematographer Steve Yedlin, Below The Line notes that they spoke to him “during a break in filming a new Marvel project down in Atlanta.” A glance at Yedlin’s IMDb confirms that he’s attached to none other than Thunderbolts, whose filming status has suitably been updated on the site to read “In Production.”

This is somewhat surprising news as Thunderbolts wasn’t scheduled to kick off its production until June. Presumably Yedlin is already down in Atlanta for some preliminary shooting before principal photography properly begins next week. The ensemble film, which could be viewed as something of a Black Widow spinoff, comes from director Jake Schreier.

Unfortunately, unlike Deadpool 3 — which is basically drowning in good vibes — Thunderbolts has already suffered from some muted public opinion since its announcement at 2022’s San Diego Comic-Con. While there are some fan-favorites in the cast, including Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes. the lack of superpowered diversity in the characters has been criticized.

In addition, Steven Yeun — once an exciting new addition to the MCU — was recently involved in an online scandal thanks to his support of Beef co-star David Choe. Nevertheless, Thunderbolts is pegged as Marvel’s big summer blockbuster for next year so it may well blow us all away once it eventually arrives in theaters on July 26, 2024.
