New UK rapper may actually be Timothy Chalamet in a mask, and the evidence is stacking

He told them to "run thy pockets."

The internet is absolutely buzzing right now because a theory suggesting that anonymous U.K. rapper EsDeeKid is actually famed actor Timothée Chalamet has gone totally viral on TikTok. If this wild theory turns out to be true, it’d be funny to see.

The speculation really took off last week when TikToker K.J. Freeman (@gothauntie0) posted a video laying out her reasons for the suspicion. This idea quickly spread, and now fans are scrambling to find even more evidence to link the Call Me by Your Name actor to the mysterious musician.

First, let’s talk about EsDeeKid. He’s a rapper out of Liverpool who has been steadily climbing the singles charts since 2024. His entire brand is built around mystique, according to Daily Dot. He cultivates this anonymity by always wearing a balaclava or some other kind of face covering when he’s in public as his artist persona. He barely posts anything on social media, which just fuels the internet’s desire to unmask him.

Who is this rapper from the UK who looks like Timothy Chalamet?

The first major connection comes down to the tall Chalamet’s known passion for hip hop. He frequently talks about how much he loves the genre in interviews, so it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine him wanting to dive into the music scene himself.

However, if you’re a massive star like Chalamet, you can’t just drop an album; it rarely goes well for actors. This is where the anonymity makes perfect sense. K.J. Freeman noted that if Chalamet wanted to enter the music scene, concealing his identity would be absolutely necessary. She pointed out that “The only person who really managed it was Jamie Foxx, and even then, people thought he was doing a Ray Charles impersonation.”

Beyond the historical difficulty, there’s a real career risk in today’s environment, especially for a white rapper. For a highly successful actor like Chalamet, attempting this could be “career suicide” if the music flopped or if the whole thing just came off as a vanity project. But for an everyday rapper, anonymity would actually make their career rise much more difficult. This tells you the mask is there to protect a pre-existing, high-profile career. I think this is the most compelling piece of evidence; it’s a genius move if he’s trying to establish credibility without the Hollywood baggage.

The evidence doesn’t stop there. Freeman, who admitted she doesn’t have “hard evidence,” pointed to a very specific concert Chalamet attended last year. The actor shocked fans when he showed up in the crowd at an underground London concert for the rapper Fakemink. Given Chalamet’s fame, attending a small, underground show like that is crazy; he’d usually be swamped by fans. But the connection clicks when you realize Fakemink and EsDeeKid are close buddies and collaborators. This suggests Chalamet wasn’t just a random fan; he was there for a friend.

The internet quickly added more visual proof. Fans have noticed that the two celebrities appear to own the exact same bandana. While some TikTok videos superimposing Chalamet’s eyes over the rapper’s face are flooding the platform, which isn’t reliable evidence, the shared accessory is a fun little detail that keeps the conversation going.

Of course, there is one major counterargument to the whole theory: EsDeeKid has a thick Scouse accent. You might think, “Well, there you go, theory debunked!” But you’d be forgetting that Chalamet is an actor known for accent work among his other films.
