Colorado woman quits in front of a room full of staff and her manager. Then she explains why she couldn’t ‘grit her teeth and bear it’ anymore

Many called it unprofessional, but her advice is quit your toxic job and do it "dramatically."

A Colorado woman has gone viral on TikTok after quitting her job at a Vuori activewear store in what appeared to be a very public exit. In the video, that has drawn thousands of comments, the woman, who goes by Monica (@monicaen_11) on TikTok, is seen standing in the store during what appears to be a staff meeting before announcing her resignation out loud, in front of her coworkers and manager.

In the clip, Monica can be heard saying, “Yes actually, this is gonna be my last staff meeting. I’m quitting, you are a b—-.” Her manager is then heard responding, “Okay, goodbye, Monica.” Monica then walks out of the store and into a mall, eventually stepping outside, where she announces to the camera, “I just quit my job!” Several people in the room can be seen turning around and reacting to what she said.

In the caption to her video, Monica wrote, “Quit your toxic job dramatically. It is so much fun!” The video sparked widespread reactions online, with one commenter writing, “Everyone gasping had me dying,” and another saying, “Everyone needs to quit like this at least once in their life, it’s liberating!”

Monica says a management change and a specific incident contributed to her decision to leave

Monica later posted a follow-up video where she said she originally enjoyed working at the store. “When I first got hired, I loved the people I worked with,” she said, adding that she was still close friends with most of the people hired around the same time she was. She described the early environment as positive and said the job felt like “a nice change of pace.”

According to Monica, things began to change when a floor lead, one of the lower-level supervisory roles at the store, was promoted to assistant manager. She said this individual, whom she referred to as “Jason,” was not well-liked by the staff. “We do our best. We kind of grit our teeth and bear it,” she said, describing how the team tried to carry on despite the change. The situation described by her is not unlike other cases where overbearing managers have driven employees to quit.

Monica claimed things escalated when Jason allegedly took one of her close friends “out back” and berated her to the point where she was left in tears and had to leave work early. “I have never in my life seen someone get yelled at like that at work,” Monica said. She added that her own name was reportedly brought up during that conversation, which she said made her uncomfortable.

Monica said she later approached Jason to address the situation. She said she asked to speak with him away from the sales floor, telling him she felt uncomfortable having her name brought up in a conversation that ended with a coworker going home in tears. At the time, Monica said she was working roughly 10 to 20 hours a week, usually around 15 hours, and said she felt she was largely keeping to herself. “I wasn’t there as much as other people were,” she said.

Monica stated that what she described was only a small part of a much larger story. “It’s a long, long, long story,” she said, noting that her personal situation involved “a year’s worth of backstory” and that there were other incidents beyond what she had shared. Workplace disputes that escalate over time have prompted similar reactions online, including cases where bosses have made heartless demands of grieving employees. As of her most recent update, Monica said she has not yet covered everything that happened.

Some viewers in the comments sided with Monica, while others criticized the manner in which she quit. One commenter wrote, “So unprofessional. Better ways to go about this,” while another user suggested, “I think you just wanted a TikTok moment.” On the other side, a commenter wrote, “She posted it like it was a mic drop, meanwhile the office group chat was already planning a celebration lunch.” Another commenter wrote, “This is absolutely the flex you think it is.”

One user who identified themselves as a fellow Vuori employee commented, “Girl my last day at Vuori is Saturday, I can’t wait to feel peace after.” Monica has not posted a full account of all the incidents she referenced in her follow-up video, and her story, according to her own description, is still ongoing.
