California family hears voices in their home, unaware they left a door open and the past was eavesdropping

Rayna Bell of San Diego allegedly livestreamed more than 700 hours from the Ring device in her ex-husband’s home reports NBC San Diego. Neither the husband or his new fiancée were aware of the fact that they were being watched until little clues tipped them off. Bell has since pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of eavesdropping with an electronic device.

The family only became aware of the spying after hearing voices coming from the Ring camera prosecutors claimed. The blue light would also light up indicated that it was recording.

The new fiancée, Acacia Young, eventually recognized the voice as her soon-to-be husband’s ex-wife and promptly removed the camera from their home. However, by the time Young acted, Bell had already listened in on hundreds of hours of conversation including financial and private conversations across numerous weeks.

What prompted the ex to target the couple hasn’t been made clear. Bell initially denied the allegations against her, referring to the accusations against her in court documents as a “smear campaign.” However, Young had found dozens of clips allegedly containing Bell’s voice.

Rayna Bell admits guilt

Young claimed that she was relieved upon hearing that Bell had confessed to watching her and her fiancé. Young said she was “Relieved, absolutely relieved, because we’ve been trying to convince everyone, you know, of the truth and now we no longer have to do that. She admitted it herself.”

Young also spoke of the toll the whole ordeal had on the couple as Bell’s actions apparently pushed them to leave their home and replace all of their Ring cameras. “We tried so hard to try to restore the peace, the security, the privacy. Once you are robbed of that, it’s almost impossible to try to restore that in your home,” Young explained.

According to the New York Times, Bell is expected to pay restitution towards the couple the amount of which will be determined in court at a later date. She will also serve one day in custody with credit for time served as well as one year probation.

However, Young claims that the scars inflicted on her and her husband from such an invasion of privacy run deep, “You’re always going to feel like they can do it again, or if they had the opportunity, they would do it again,” she said. Due to the stress caused she has decided to pursue further civil action against Bell over the whole thing.
